HALTOM CITY, TEXAS — On sacred ground where history rests but still speaks, a powerful movement of remembrance and restoration is rising. New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church of Fort Worth, in partnership with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the City of Haltom City, the Ministers Justice Coalition of Texas, and the Texas Buffalo Soldiers Association, stands united to honor the enduring legacy of more than 7,707 documented Black pioneers—including over 500 Black veterans—laid to rest at Fretwell–New Trinity Cemetery, within People’s Burial Park in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas (76111).
This is more than a moment—it is a mission.
A mission to reclaim stories long buried.
A mission to restore dignity where time has been silent.
A mission to ensure that every name, every life, and every sacrifice is remembered, respected, and revered.
Led by Pastor Kyev P. Tatum, Sr., Coordinating Cemetery Curator, this sacred initiative is rooted in the belief that every stone has a story and every soul has significance. Through intentional care, historical preservation, and community engagement, “Digging for Dignity” gives voice to generations who helped build Fort Worth and shaped the very fabric of Tarrant County.
Because when we honor the past,
we give power to the present—
and we pave the way for a more purposeful future.
