TRY LIKE TRE. Galatians 6:9: In Loving Memory of Trevelle “Tre” Boyer. A Tribute from Pastor Kyev P. Tatum, Sr.
TRY LIKE TRE: In Loving Memory of Trevelle “Tre” Boyer. A Tribute from Pastor Kyev P. Tatum, Sr.
Tre was one of a kind.
He was loving.
He was caring.
He was hardworking.
And yes — sometimes he could get on your last nerve.
But when Tre showed up, you were always glad to see him.
He often brought his brother Davion with him, and from the beginning you could see the bond between them. Tre had a big heart — a heart that cared deeply for the people around him. Sometimes it seemed like his heart might have been bigger than his judgment. But maybe that was exactly how God designed him.
God knew what He was doing when He made Tre.
Tre’s life reminds us of something powerful:
We may not always get everything right in life, but we must never stop trying.
And Tre was trying.
He was trying to make a difference.
He was trying to work.
He was trying to build something better for his family.
He was trying to find his way like so many young men do.
Tre was not perfect. None of us are.
But one thing is certain — Tre was trying.
The tragedy of Trevelle Boyer’s death at just 18 years old, after being critically wounded in the February 24 shooting at the Mirabel Apartments in south Fort Worth, reminds us how fragile life can be and how urgent our work in the community must remain.
As the pastor of New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church and founder of Skills City, USA Resilience Responders, I am proud to say that Tre was family. His life mattered. His effort mattered. His heart mattered.
And his name will be remembered.
From this day forward, when people say Tre’s name, I pray they remember this truth:
Tre was not perfect — but Tre was trying.
So in his memory, let us challenge ourselves and our young people with a simple call:
Try Like Tre.
Try to do better.
Try to love deeper.
Try to choose life.
Try to lift one another.
Because sometimes the greatest tribute we can give someone we’ve lost is to keep trying — just like they did.
The Bible reminds us in Galatians 6:9 (KJV):
“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
And in Ecclesiastes 9:11 (KJV):
“The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong… but time and chance happeneth to them all.”
Tre ran his race the best way he knew how — with heart, with effort, and with the courage to keep trying.
Rest in peace, Tre.
You will not be forgotten.
