The American Red Cross will visit New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church and the Ministers Justice Coalition of Texas on Thursday, October 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. We’ll continue our conversation about ways to work together, and the Red Cross will honor New Mount Rose, the Ministers Justice Coalition, and our community partners for supporting families affected by the apartment fire across the street from the church.

We’ll discuss the Red Cross smoke alarm initiative, which helps make homes across North Texas safer for families. We’ll also explore ways to help seniors prepare emergency go bags with important documents, medications, and other essentials. This effort may be most effectively coordinated with NTXCOG, and we look forward to discussing the possibilities.

The Red Cross has also invited us to help install smoke alarms in Fort Worth’s North Side on Saturday, October 10, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

This is a meaningful opportunity to serve our neighbors and explore how we might bring similar efforts to other communities we serve.

AN ANGEL FROM ARKANSAS: The Authentic Voice of Nija Higgins. Proverbs 3:3-4. By Kyev Tatum, Publisher, Black Texans, Inc. Not Nija! In a world where everyone seems to be imitating someone else, Nija Higgins stands apart—genuine, radiant, and utterly authentic. She is heaven-sent at a time when authenticity is a rare gift. From the moment you meet her, you sense her goodness. Her heart leans toward helping those navigating the deep pain of losing a loved one. She notices the smallest details, and her leadership flows effortlessly, drawing people into her vision. And then, when the music begins, Nija transforms before your eyes. From orchestrating a memorial service with precision and care, she becomes the lead singer of a band of Hidden Gems, lifting hearts with a voice that seems to descend straight from Heaven.
