A STORY OF SISTERHOOD: In Loving Memory of Deidra Williams. Proverbs 17:17a

A STORY OF SISTERHOOD

In Loving Memory of Deidra Williams ~ “A friend loveth at all times.” —Proverbs 17:17a

It started in the sixth grade,
at Bertha Collins Recreation Center—
two young girls in ballet slippers,
learning how to point their toes,
stretch toward their dreams
and dance through life together.

From middle school into high school,
through childhood dreams
and grown-woman responsibilities,
they remained side by side.

They celebrated the births of their children,
stood together through marriages,
rejoiced through life’s blessings
and held one another through hardships,
heartbreaks and pain.

They were more than friends.
They were sisters from different misters,
walking by faith
and serving the same Heavenly Father.

The day before Deidra went home to glory,
Tonya came to visit.
The next day, they spoke once more,
never knowing it would be
their final conversation
on this side of Heaven.

But love does not end
when a heartbeat stops.
True sisterhood does not disappear
when one sister crosses over.
The memories remain.
The laughter still echoes.
The love lives on.

For no one knows the day or the hour
when God will call us home.
So we must cherish every moment,
treasure every memory
and love deeply those
whom God places in our lives.

They were friends.
They were ballerinas.
They were classmates.
They were mothers.
They were sisters.

But most importantly,
they were children
of the Most High God.

And so, Tonya says:

“Deidra, just in case the Lord comes
before we can get together again,
I will see you.
Yes, my sister,
I will see you on the other shore.”

Two Friends.
Two Sisters.
One Faith.
An Eternal Bond.
