A new HBCU College Readiness Seminar is now available for students who are seriously considering attending a Historically Black College or University.

I recently had the privilege of working with Dr. Elizabeth Branch on her newest educational initiative, Project Stand Up, and I am deeply impressed by her commitment to preparing students and families for the HBCU admissions journey.

Dr. Branch has developed an innovative process that introduces students to admissions opportunities at 50 HBCUs. She has also created HBCU Histo BINGO, an engaging educational game that helps students and their families discover the history, achievements, traditions, and enduring legacy of HBCUs across the country.




During the seminar, students and families will learn about:

  • The HBCU admissions process and opportunities at 50 institutions
  • Financial aid, scholarships, and resources that can help make college affordable
  • The academic preparation and personal discipline needed to thrive in college
  • The unique educational, cultural, professional, and leadership opportunities available at HBCUs
  • The history and continuing importance of Historically Black Colleges and Universities

This is more than a seminar. It is a remarkable opportunity for our entire education community to work together to expand college access, strengthen student preparation, and connect the next generation with the extraordinary legacy of HBCUs.

This initiative creates opportunities for everyone:

  • Pastors and churches can help build a college-going culture while connecting young people and their families with valuable educational opportunities.
  • Principals and schools gain a college-readiness resource that strengthens their efforts to expand postsecondary access.
  • Counselors and educators receive another effective tool for guiding students through college exploration, financial-aid planning, and the admissions process.
  • Parents and families gain information, resources, and encouragement to help their scholars make informed educational decisions.
  • Community organizations receive an opportunity to invest directly in the academic development and future success of local students.
  • Students explore pathways to 50 HBCUs while discovering institutions where they can learn, lead, grow, and achieve excellence.
  • Every participating scholar takes home an HBCU Histo BINGO game to continue playing, learning, and expanding their knowledge of the rich HBCU legacy.
