FORT WORTH, TEXAS — Cook Children’s is helping launch a new Community Computer Lab in Fort Worth’s historic Morningside neighborhood, expanding access to technology, education, healthcare information and economic opportunities for families throughout ZIP code 76104.

Located at the Erma Johnson Hadley CommuniVersity Center at New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church, the lab will serve as the Digital Front Door in 76104—a free and welcoming place where residents can connect with the technology, information, training and opportunities needed to build healthier, stronger and more prosperous lives.

The technology center is being established in a community identified as having the lowest life expectancy in Texas—approximately 67 years.

Through a collaboration among New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church, LULAC Council 22308, the Ministers Justice Coalition of Texas and Pipeline to Possibilities at the University of North Texas at Dallas, the Community Computer Lab will provide residents with the resources and support they need to:

LEARN • EARN • SAVE • INVEST • PROTECT

“This collaboration will help us change the trajectory of life expectancy in our community for the better,” said Pastor Kyev P. Tatum, Sr., senior pastor of New Mount Rose and creator of the CommuniVersity Center. “Our beloved member, the late Chancellor Erma Johnson Hadley, would be delighted to know that her church is building an educational center for those who need access the most. Beyond the sky is the limit. We plan to launch our community to the moon and back!”

The center is named in honor of the late Erma Johnson Hadley, a groundbreaking educator, devoted community leader and former chancellor of the Tarrant County College District. Her life demonstrated the power of education to overcome barriers, transform families and strengthen entire communities.

As the Digital Front Door in 76104, the Community Computer Lab will connect residents with essential resources related to:

  • Education and academic achievement
  • Employment and professional development
  • Healthcare information and services
  • Financial literacy and wealth building
  • Citizenship and civic participation
  • Personal and family development
  • Digital safety and protection

The lab will support children and adults who need reliable technology to complete school assignments, prepare résumés, apply for jobs, obtain professional certifications, access healthcare information, complete important online applications and pursue new educational and economic opportunities.

Residents will also receive guidance to help them protect their personal information, financial resources, legal rights, health and families while navigating an increasingly digital world.

New Mount Rose is launching a fundraising campaign to expand the capacity of the CommuniVersity Center and ensure that its programs remain free and accessible to residents of ZIP code 76104.

“We are leading the effort to provide public access to the essential resources people need to build better lives—physically, educationally and economically,” Pastor Tatum said. “Education has always been one of the greatest pathways out of poverty. When people are given access, opportunity and encouragement, they become empowered to transform their lives, their families and their community.”

New Mount Rose currently provides several community-based educational and empowerment programs in collaboration with other organizations, including:

  • English for the Professions, in collaboration with UNT Dallas
  • Community Justice Workers, in collaboration with Texas A&M University School of Law
  • Community gardening and food-access programs through Guns to Gardens to Groceries
  • Positive youth-development programs through God’s Army Youth Ministry
  • Technology and educational assistance, in collaboration with Cook Children’s
  • The Community Food Bowl, in collaboration with Midwest Food Bank

The church is also preparing to begin offering citizenship classes in 2027.

The Community Computer Lab represents another major step in New Mount Rose’s mission to become a “Holy House of Hospitality”—a church that meets people where they are and provides the practical resources they need to live healthier, stronger and more prosperous lives.

Individuals, businesses, foundations, educational institutions and community organizations are invited to support the fundraising campaign and collaborate with New Mount Rose in opening the Digital Front Door to a healthier, safer and more hopeful future for ZIP code 76104.
