A Mission Born in the Heart of Morningside
Since 1964, New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church has stood at the corner of Glen Garden Drive and Mississippi Avenue, serving as a landmark of faith in the heart of the historic Morningside neighborhood.
For more than six decades, this church has been more than a building.
It has been a house of worship.
A place where children have learned.
A place where families have prayed.
A place where neighbors have found hope.
A place where lives have been changed.
Today, God is calling New Mount Rose to do even more.
Research from UT Southwestern has shown that ZIP Code 76104 has one of the lowest life expectancies in Texas—approximately 67 years, with Black men averaging about 64 years.
Those are not just numbers.
They are our neighbors.
Our families.
Our children.
Our seniors.
Our future.
When Jesus looked upon the crowds…
He did not see statistics.
He saw people.
He saw hunger.
He saw sickness.
He saw brokenness.
And He responded with compassion.
Then Jesus gave His Church its marching orders:
“For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink.”

That is our assignment.
That is why The Community Food Squad was born and nurtured at New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church.
Not to create another program.
Not to sponsor another event.
But to launch a movement that feeds people, improves health, strengthens neighborhoods, and glorifies God.
Since 2018, New Mount Rose and the Ministers Justice Coalition of Texas have invested our time, talent, and treasure into transforming lives through practical ministry.

We believe healthy neighborhoods begin with healthy people.
Healthy people begin with healthy food.
Healthy food begins with healthy soil.
Healthy soil begins with faithful farmers.
That is why we are grateful for our faithful partner, Midwest Food Bank, whose generosity has helped us provide food, hope, and dignity to thousands of families across North Texas.
We also celebrate Brothers Ken Ross and P. Wade Ross, the Texas Small Farmers and Ranchers Organization, and every farmer and rancher who believes that fresh food belongs in every neighborhood.
Together, we are bringing the farm to the folks who need it most.
This is bigger than watermelons.
Bigger than vegetables.
Bigger than gardens.
Bigger than food.
This is about changing the trajectory of an entire community.
Replacing food deserts with food opportunities.
Replacing sickness with wellness.
Replacing despair with hope.
Replacing isolation with partnership.
Replacing scarcity with abundance.
Because when God’s people answer God’s call…
