FIRST DAY FATHERS SAY: “NO DISTRACTIONS!”
Community Father Figures Unite to Welcome Morningside Students Back to School.
FORT WORTH, Texas — The First Day Fathers Initiative is calling on fathers, grandfathers, uncles, pastors, coaches, mentors, veterans, fraternity members, and positive male role models to stand together in support of students as they begin the 2026–2027 school year.
On Monday, August 10, 2026, community members are invited to line the sidewalks of Morningside schools to greet students with smiles, encouragement, prayer, and positive affirmation as they arrive for their first day of school.
This year’s theme is:
FIRST DAY FATHERS SAY: NO DISTRACTIONS!
Inspired by Luke 9:62, the initiative encourages students to keep their eyes on the future and not allow distractions to pull them away from God’s purpose.
“And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” — Luke 9:62 (KJV)
Just as a farmer must keep his eyes fixed ahead to plow a straight row, students are encouraged to stay committed to their education, their character, and their future without being pulled away by unnecessary distractions.
Every student is challenged to remain:
- Faithful. Stay Rooted.
- Focused. Stay on Target.
- Forward. Keep Moving.
The goal is simple: to remind every child that they are valued, supported, and capable of succeeding both in the classroom and in life.

“Our prayer is that every student starts this school year with purpose,” said Pastor Kyev P. Tatum, Sr., organizer of the First Day Fathers Initiative. “Luke 9:62 reminds us that when our hands are on the plow, we cannot afford to look back or become distracted. We want our students to know that success comes from remaining faithful to God, focused on their education, and moving forward with courage and determination. Together, we are sending one clear message: No Distractions!”
The event is open to all fathers and father figures throughout Fort Worth. Participants are encouraged to arrive early, wear school-appropriate attire or organization shirts, and help create a positive, welcoming atmosphere for students, teachers, and school staff.
Community Support
The First Day Fathers Initiative welcomes volunteers, churches, civic organizations, businesses, and community partners who want to invest in the next generation.
Together, we can help every child begin the school year with confidence, hope, and purpose.
