OUR STORY

FORT WORTH, TEXAS — During the COVID-19 pandemic, Pastor Kyev P. Tatum, Sr. and the member churches of the Ministers Justice Coalition of Texas began praying for a sustainable source of food to help feed families experiencing food insecurity throughout Fort Worth’s central city neighborhoods.

God answered those prayers through the generosity of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, whose members stepped up to the plate by providing food resources that strengthened the New Mount Rose Food Bowl—a Christ-centered food distribution network serving churches, nonprofits, and families throughout ZIP codes 76104, 76105, and surrounding communities.

After witnessing the impact of this ministry, the Latter-day Saints introduced New Mount Rose to Midwest Food Bank, a Christ-centered nonprofit organization dedicated to sharing the love of Christ by alleviating hunger, responding to disasters, and strengthening communities.

Since 2020, churches throughout the Ministers Justice Coalition have also stepped up to the plate. Congregations such as Christ Temple Church and Greater TrueLight Missionary Baptist Church have faithfully provided financial support, volunteers, and church facilities that have served as community food distribution centers (https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/texas/news/martin-luther-king-jr-day-fort-worth-event-helps-address-hunger-issues/).

The coalition has continued to grow. The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) has joined this effort by providing volunteers, resources, and ongoing support for the New Mount Rose Food Bowl, demonstrating that caring for our neighbors transcends denominational, cultural, and organizational boundaries.

Since 2023, Midwest Food Bank and the Ministers Justice Coalition have worked side by side to help feed thousands of families across Fort Worth. Together, churches, civic organizations, businesses, nonprofits, and volunteers have become a team committed to ensuring that food reaches those who need it most.

Today, the communities we serve are embracing a powerful biblical principle:

After establishing a voluntary donation program, New Mount Rose has witnessed an inspiring increase in neighbors, churches, businesses, and community partners choosing to invest in this life-changing ministry. Their generosity is helping ensure that this mission continues for generations to come.

As the affordability crisis continues to challenge families throughout our community, maintaining a dependable source of nutritious food has never been more important.

That is why the Ministers Justice Coalition proudly launches Faith At The Plate®—a community giving campaign inviting individuals, churches, businesses, civic organizations, and compassionate neighbors to financially support the life-saving mission of Midwest Food Bank.
