THE SOUTHSIDE SIFTERS: Transforming Rocky Dirt into Rich Soil in 76104.
At first glance, “The Southside Sifters” might sound like the name of a soulful singing group from the 1960s — but in Fort Worth, it has become the name of a powerful new garden movement designed to help communities turn food deserts into food forests.
What once helped families recover from disaster through the American Red Cross will now help New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church feed families facing food insecurity in the heart of the community.
These sifters, once symbols of disaster relief and recovery, are now being transformed into instruments of hope — turning rocky dirt into rich soil where gardens can grow, communities can heal, and families can be fed.
What once served emergency response will now serve neighborhood restoration through sustainable gardening, community feeding, and faith-driven renewal.
At New Mount Rose, we believe even the roughest ground can produce a harvest when people come together with faith, vision, and love.
