THE HEALTH iN THE HOOD Mental Health Symposium at New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church is dedicated to the memory, mission, and movement of the late Mrs. Sherrye Ellison Willis, visionary founder and CEO of the Alliance for Greater Works.

Mrs. Willis was a pioneering advocate for mental health awareness and community healing whose work in Trauma-Informed Care for Clergy and Congregations has become legendary. Through her leadership, countless pastors, churches, and faith leaders gained a deeper understanding of the impact of trauma and the vital role the church plays in creating safe spaces for healing, restoration, and hope.

Her unwavering commitment to educating clergy, strengthening congregations, and helping communities respond to emotional and mental health challenges transformed lives across North Texas and beyond. She understood that healing is holy work and that faith communities must be equipped to minister to the whole person—mind, body, and spirit.

As we gather for the Health iN The Hood Mental Health Symposium, we honor her extraordinary legacy and recommit ourselves to advancing the work she so passionately championed. May her light continue to shine through every life restored, every family strengthened, every congregation empowered, and every community healed.

“The righteous will be remembered forever.” — Psalm 112:6

May your soul shine even brighter, Mrs. Willis, as we continue your life’s work and strengthen the church’s response to mental health wellness, trauma-informed care, and compassionate ministry.

“Her work lives on because the people she equipped continue the work of healing.”
