FORT WORTH — New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church and the Ministers Justice Coalition of Texas (MJCT) have officially launched the “Community Justice Warriors” initiative through a new partnership with the Northwest Legal Aid Community Justice Workers Program, creating new pathways to justice, leadership, workforce development, and community empowerment in Fort Worth’s historic 76104 community (https://blacktexans.blogspot.com/2026/05/community-justice-warriors-community.html).

The partnership comes as many Texans continue facing legal challenges, housing instability, financial hardship, and barriers to accessing critical resources without adequate support or representation.

Through the statewide Community Justice Workers (CJW) Program, trusted community members are trained to share reliable legal information, connect residents with resources, and help expand access to justice across Texas communities.

Leaders at New Mount Rose and the Ministers Justice Coalition say the initiative reflects a growing movement of churches and community organizations stepping forward to help address everyday challenges affecting working families.

“In communities like 76104, too many people face legal problems without help,” Pastor Kyev Tatum said. “We believe faith institutions must become bridges to information, opportunity, healing, and hope. This initiative is about helping people rebound after hard financial setbacks while creating a Pipeline to Possibilities for leadership and service.”

As an official Community Partner Organization (CPO) affiliated with the Northwest Legal Aid Community Justice Workers Program, New Mount Rose will help identify and support local residents interested in becoming certified Community Justice Workers — or “Community Justice Warriors,” as the church and coalition have branded the movement.

Community Justice Workers are trained, trusted community guides who help extend the reach of legal aid organizations throughout Texas. While CJWs do not provide legal advice, they help residents better understand their rights, prevent small problems from becoming larger crises, connect individuals with community resources, and guide people toward legal aid services when needed.

The initiative is led in partnership with legal aid organizations across Texas, including:

  • Disability Rights Texas (DRTx)
  • Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas (LANWT)
  • Lone Star Legal Aid (LSLA)
  • Texas Legal Services Center (TLSC)
  • Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA)

Organizers say the program is especially important in historically underserved communities where residents often struggle to navigate legal systems, housing issues, employment disputes, healthcare access, family matters, and civil court processes without guidance.

“This is neighbors helping neighbors,” Tatum said. “We are building trusted community connectors who can walk alongside families during difficult moments and help them find pathways toward stability.”

Community Justice Warriors will receive online training and certification designed to prepare them to:

  • Share accurate and reliable legal information
  • Help people understand their rights
  • Prevent small problems from becoming major crises
  • Support residents representing themselves in civil matters
  • Connect families with legal aid and community resources

Applicants interested in becoming Community Justice Workers must be at least 18 years old, possess a high school diploma or GED, live in Texas, have reliable internet access, and be comfortable completing online coursework. Participants must also complete a background check before approval.

Eligible applicants must be affiliated with New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church as members, employees, or eligible volunteers.

Once applications are submitted, applicants will be contacted regarding background check procedures. After verification of affiliation with New Mount Rose, approved participants may begin the online coursework.

Leaders say the Community Justice Warriors initiative also reflects New Mount Rose’s broader mission of serving as “The Digital Front Door in 76104” — combining faith, technology, education, wellness, and community engagement to strengthen southeast Fort Worth neighborhoods.

“This partnership is another example of faith meeting action,” Tatum said. “We are trying to equip people with tools to learn, lead, and lift the community from the inside out and from the bottom up.”

Over the past several years, New Mount Rose and the Ministers Justice Coalition have increasingly positioned themselves as community hubs for workforce development, wellness initiatives, digital access, food security projects, education partnerships, and neighborhood revitalization efforts throughout Fort Worth.

Church and coalition leaders believe the Community Justice Warriors initiative represents a new generation of grassroots leadership rooted in trust, service, justice, and empowerment.
