FORT WORTH — A longtime educator, civic leader and former chancellor of Tarrant County College is being honored through a major new education and workforce development initiative designed to expand opportunity in one of Fort Worth’s most historically underserved neighborhoods.

Pastor Kyev P. Tatum Sr. and members of New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church announced the launch of the Erma Johnson Hadley Chancellor Center for Education, Training & Development, a faith-based initiative aimed at increasing educational access, workforce readiness, digital literacy, health training and youth development opportunities throughout Fort Worth’s 76104 ZIP code.

The center, located on the campus of New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church on Mississippi Avenue, is named in honor of former Tarrant County College Chancellor Erma Johnson Hadley, a respected higher education leader and longtime church member whose influence helped shape generations of students across the nation.

Church leaders describe the initiative as a significant investment in neighborhood transformation through education, strategic partnerships and workforce development.

“This is more than a training center,” Tatum said. “This is a launching pad for hope, healing, leadership, innovation and lifelong learning. We are creating pathways from survival to success, from poverty to possibilities and from dreams to destiny.”

The Chancellor Center will begin operations with five signature programs focused on education, workforce preparation and community empowerment (https://youtu.be/sKwez34SiPc).

Among the initiatives is a Citizenship Training Center in partnership with University of North Texas at Dallas designed to help residents prepare for citizenship, civic engagement, language development and higher education opportunities.

A Community Health Workers Training Center sponsored by The University of Texas at Arlington will train neighborhood leaders to serve as frontline health advocates and wellness ambassadors throughout the community.

The center will also include a Community Computer Center sponsored by Cook Children’s Health Plan to expand access to digital literacy, online learning, workforce readiness and telehealth resources for youth, adults and senior citizens.

In addition, church leaders announced plans for a Specialty Coffee Laboratory sponsored by the Texas A&M Center for Coffee that will introduce entrepreneurship training, barista certification, coffee science and economic mobility opportunities connected to the global coffee industry.

A Youth Development Center sponsored by God’s Property at New Mount Rose will focus on mentorship, leadership development, faith formation and workforce preparation for young people in the community.

Church leaders say the initiative aligns with New Mount Rose’s broader vision of becoming “The Digital Front Door of 76104,” helping bridge longstanding educational, workforce, health and technology gaps throughout southeast Fort Worth.

“This is what transformation looks like,” Tatum said. “We are building pipelines to possibilities. We are helping people learn, lead, heal, work, build and rise together.”

Additional workforce certifications, entrepreneurship initiatives and educational partnerships are expected to be announced later this year.
