“Build a Garden Box. Feed An Entire Block.” Matthew 13:8
On Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., the community will gather at New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth’s historic 76104 community for a powerful Day of Service focused on fighting food insecurity from the ground up.
As part of the growing urban garden movement taking root in 76104, volunteers, churches, neighbors, families, youth, gardeners, and community partners are invited to help build garden boxes designed to bring fresh vegetables and healthy food directly into neighborhoods impacted by food deserts.
According to local farmers supporting the initiative, a single well-maintained garden box can produce enough vegetables throughout the year to help feed an entire neighborhood block.
What may appear to be a simple wooden box is actually becoming a symbol of hope, health, healing, sustainability, and community transformation.
This is more than gardening.
This is community restoration.
This is neighbors helping neighbors.
This is faith in action.
This is feeding the community from the inside out and from the bottom up.
Hosted by New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church of Fort Worth, the “Build a Garden Box for the Block” project is part of a broader vision to transform unused spaces into places of nourishment, learning, fellowship, and opportunity throughout 76104.
Volunteers will help build garden boxes, prepare soil, organize planting areas, and support efforts designed to empower churches and neighborhoods to grow their own fresh produce locally.
Matthew 13:8 reminds us:
“Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”
The seeds planted in 76104 are not just seeds for vegetables.
