A Partnership for Preparedness and Resilience

“We are pleased to welcome the American Red Cross to our meeting. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve in partnership with them,”

— Pastor Kyev P. Tatum, Sr., President of the Ministers Justice Coalition of Texas and Senior Pastor of New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church

According to Steve Abbott, this gathering represents more than a meeting—it is the beginning of strategic alignment between faith-based leadership and one of the nation’s most trusted disaster response organizations.

Together, we are exploring powerful opportunities to build stronger, safer, and more resilient communities across North Texas—starting right here in the 76104 community.

Preparedness Initiatives (Free to Learn & Share)

The American Red Cross is offering no-cost training programs designed to equip churches, families, and community leaders with life-saving knowledge:

Prepare with Pedro

A youth-focused program (K–2nd grade) featuring Pedro the Penguin, teaching children how to stay safe and take action during emergencies.

Be Red Cross Ready

A practical presentation that prepares individuals and families for common disasters such as fires and tornadoes.

Sound the Alarm

A life-saving home fire campaign providing free smoke alarm installation and fire safety education.

Hands-Only CPR Training

A 30-minute training equipping participants with the essential skills to save lives during cardiac emergencies.

Disaster Response Opportunities (Serve When Called)

The Red Cross is also opening doors for community members to become trained disaster responders, with flexible volunteer opportunities:

Shelter Workers

Partnering with local churches and recreation centers to provide safe refuge during disasters.

Disaster Action Team (DAT) Responders

Serving on the front lines of local emergencies—particularly home fires.

The Red Cross responds to over 65,000 home fires annually nationwide, with at least one occurring daily in the Dallas–Fort Worth region.

Large-Scale Disaster Response

Opportunities to serve during tornadoes, floods, and mass casualty events in a variety of critical roles.

A Call to Action

This collaboration reflects a shared mission:

To move from reaction to readiness.

From crisis to coordination.

From surviving to serving.

The Ministers Justice Coalition invites pastors, leaders, and community partners to join this movement toward preparedness, protection, and purpose-driven service.
