New Mount Rose Church and LULAC to Host National LULAC Youth & College Expo During 2026 Convention Week.
FORT WORTH, TEXAS — May 2, 2026
In a powerful celebration of unity, opportunity, and youth empowerment during the week of Juneteenth, LULAC Council 22308 and New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church will host the LULAC Youth & College Expo on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 1:00 PM in the heart of Fort Worth’s Morningside community.
The Expo is an official community-based highlight of the 2026 National LULAC Convention, taking place June 17–20 at the Fort Worth Convention Center, drawing attendees from across the nation.
“This is more than an event—it’s a moment of purpose,” said Kyev P. Tatum Sr., Senior Pastor of New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church. “We are honored to welcome youth from across the country to our church and community. We intend to show them the very best of Fort Worth—our faith, our hospitality, and our commitment to their future.”
A Hub for Opportunity in Morningside
Located just minutes from downtown Fort Worth, New Mount Rose will transform into a dynamic hub for college and career advancement. The Expo will feature:
- College readiness workshops
- Career exploration panels
- A college and career fair
- Networking opportunities with admissions professionals and industry leaders
A special highlight of the event is the participation of the Dallas/Fort Worth Admissions Regional Network (DARN), a coalition of nonprofit higher education admissions professionals representing colleges and universities nationwide. DARN will host a comprehensive college fair, providing students with direct access to institutions and opportunities.
Students from across North Texas—including representatives from the NAACP and the Young Women’s Leadership Academy—are expected to attend, making the Expo a vibrant gathering of emerging leaders.
A Legacy of Advocacy and Advancement
Founded in 1929, League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is the nation’s oldest and largest Latino civil rights organization. Established in Corpus Christi, Texas, LULAC emerged from the unification of three Mexican-American civic groups to fight discrimination, expand voting rights, and promote educational advancement.
“This is a moment to remember,” said Aracely Vasquez Ramos, President of LULAC Council 22308. “We are grateful for the opportunity to serve our brothers and sisters by creating a space where young people can be inspired, informed, and connected to real pathways for success.”
A Historic Church with a National Voice
Established in 1964, New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church stands as a landmark institution in Fort Worth. The church is also known as the childhood home of gospel music icon Kirk Franklin, who began his musical journey there at just eleven years old.
Today, under the leadership of Pastor Tatum, New Mount Rose continues to serve as a “Church to the Streets,” bridging faith, education, workforce development, and community transformation—particularly in Fort Worth’s 76104 zip code.
