HEAVEN AND HISTORY: The First Anniversary of “When Doves Cry” for the 6888th.  By Black Texans, Inc.

A Sacred Moment at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial

April 30, 2025 | Anniversary Reflection: April 30, 2026

THEY DID MORE THAN REMEMBER…

THEY REACHED BEYOND.

On April 30, 2025, the Ministers Justice Coalition of Texas, alongside DJ’s Singing Doves and the Texas 6888th Project, stood at the Stone of Hope—

and touched heaven.

What began as remembrance…

became reverence.

What began as history…

became holy ground.

A MOMENT THAT SHIFTED A NATION

One Day Earlier — April 29, 2025

At the United States Capitol

The women of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion

were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal

Families gathered.

Honor canes lifted.

A long-overdue “thank you” finally found its voice.

But hear this—

Recognition happened at the Capitol.

Reverence happened at the Memorial.

WHEN DOVES FLEW… HEAVEN ANSWERED

Under the leadership of Pastor and Sister Tatum,

the atmosphere shifted:

From program to presence

From ceremony to calling

From memory to movement

855 Black women.

Overseas. Overlooked. Undervalued.

Yet UNSTOPPABLE.

And three names heaven refused to release:

Mary Bankston

Mary J. Barlow

Dolores M. Browne

On July 8, 1945—Rouen, France—

their lives were lost…

But on April 30, 2025—

their names ROSE.

THEY WERE NOT WHISPERED…

THEY WERE WITNESSED**

Strength.

Joy.

Discipline.

Not relics of history—

witnesses for today.

FROM WASHINGTON… TO FORT WORTH

Because this story did not end in Normandy.

It did not stop in Washington.

It lives in Texas.

And rising from that living legacy:

TEC5 Florence Marie Cole Rawls

A name that connects:

From Battlefield to Burial Ground

From Mailroom to Memory

From Service to Significance

HOPE… DELIVERED

Inside freezing warehouses…

with mountains of undelivered letters…

The women of the 6888th did the impossible:

17 MILLION PIECES OF MAIL IN 3 MONTHS

No computers.

No shortcuts.

No recognition.

Because they understood:

Mail was morale.

Mail was memory.

Mail was survival.

SACRED GROUND STILL SPEAKS

New Trinity Cemetery People’s Burial Park

Resting place of TEC5 Florence Marie Cole Rawls

The ONLY Congressional Gold Medal recipient buried there

Surrounded by:

Buffalo Soldiers

Black veterans

Freedom pioneers

Red Ball Express heroes

Black Waggoners

WWI “Black Boy Soldiers”

This is not a cemetery.

This is a formation.

This is a roll call.

This is sacred soil that still speaks.

THREE DOVES. ONE MESSAGE.

Led by Mr. Derrick Johnson

DJ’s Singing Doves — Fort Worth, Texas

Three doves released.

Three names lifted.

One eternal testimony.

And when they flew—

Grief turned to glory.

Memory turned to movement.

They didn’t just fly.

They preached.

APRIL 30, 2026

THIS IS NOT JUST AN ANNIVERSARY…**

THIS IS A RESPONSIBILITY.

We remember.

We rise.

We carry it forward.

BECAUSE WHEN THE DOVES FLEW…

History didn’t cry.

HISTORY CAUGHT WINGS.

From Washington, D.C.

To Normandy, France

To Fort Worth, Texas

THE MESSAGE STILL MOVES:

You are not forgotten.

You are not alone.

Your service still speaks.

#WhenDovesCry | #WhenDovesFlew | #6888thLegacy | #HopeInAnEnvelope

WE REMEMBER.

WE HONOR.

WE DELIVER IT FORWARD.
