Fort Worth, Texas — April 2026 — The North Texas Civil Rights Collective has announced the launch of an economic boycott of Jackie Robinson Day events at Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers, beginning in April 2026.
The boycott will remain in effect until the Texas Rangers organization removes the Texas Ranger statue currently displayed at the publicly funded stadium—an image that many community members view as painful, harmful, and inconsistent with the values of inclusion and equality.
“Jackie Robinson Day should be a sacred moment in American history—a celebration of courage, justice, and progress,” said Rev. Kyev P. Tatum, Sr., President of the Ministers Justice Coalition of Texas and a leading voice within the collective. “Instead, the presence of this statue creates a contradiction that cannot be ignored.”
The North Texas Civil Rights Collective—comprised of faith leaders, civil rights organizations, and community advocates—asserts that public spaces funded by taxpayers must reflect the dignity and shared values of all people.
“We are not calling for division—we are calling for alignment,” Tatum added. “You cannot celebrate the breaking of barriers while simultaneously honoring symbols that represent exclusion and oppression.”
The collective emphasized that the boycott is a strategic, nonviolent effort to bring awareness, accountability, and meaningful dialogue to the issue. Organizers are encouraging community members, partners, and supporters across North Texas and beyond to withhold their attendance and economic participation in Jackie Robinson Day activities at Globe Life Field until the matter is addressed.
“History must be told truthfully—not selectively,” said Tatum. “And unity cannot be built on symbols that divide.”
The group remains open to constructive dialogue with the Texas Rangers organization and local leadership, with the shared goal of ensuring that public commemorations reflect the full spirit of justice and inclusion that Jackie Robinson represents.
