FORT WORTH, TEXAS - For more than two decades, Pastor Kyev P. Tatum, Sr. has been on a crusade to build what he calls a Circle of Compassion in communities across America where youth gun violence has escalated. His mission has always been simple but urgent: elevate the hearts and minds of young people before violence steals their future.
That mission has now hit painfully close to home in Fort Worth.
In February 2026, one of the community’s own sons, Trevelle “Tre” Boyer, was shot and killed in a tragic act of violence. Authorities have ruled his death a homicide, and a man arrested at the scene remains in jail on a felony charge connected to the shooting.
According to reports, Fort Worth police were called shortly before 4 p.m. last Tuesday to the Mirabel Apartments in the 6300 block of Woodway Drive after receiving calls about gunfire. When officers arrived, they found Trevelle inside an apartment suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to John Peter Smith Hospital, where he later died.
To those who knew him, he was simply Tre.
Tre was a determined young man with dreams bigger than the streets around him. He often spoke about one day owning his own construction company and building something meaningful for his future. Despite the challenges of growing up in the inner city—where opportunities can be scarce and trouble often waits around every corner—Tre continued trying to find a better path.
He was also a volunteer with Skills City’s Resilience Responders, a group of young leaders working to help others heal from trauma and hardship within the community.
That is why this loss has shaken so many hearts.
Tre was one of our own—a young man navigating a difficult world, trying to rise above circumstances that too often trap our youth. His life reminds us of both the struggles our young people face and the hope that still lives inside them.
Words cannot fully express the pain his passing has brought to the community. Yet even in grief, we gather to remember the life he lived and the promise he carried.
Trevelle “Tre” Boyer will be celebrated and laid to rest on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Holy Ark Church, where Dr. Samuel Cox, his great-grandfather, will serve as host pastor.
Though his life ended far too soon, Tre’s memory will remain with those who loved him, worked alongside him, and believed in his future.
He will be missed deeply.
And his story strengthens the call to continue building a Circle of Compassion—so that fewer young lives are lost and more young dreams have the chance to live.
