The New Mount Rose Bowl: God’s Home Field of Faith.
THE NEW MOUNT ROSE BOWL: God’s Home Field of Faith — Since 1964
“We Must Have Faith at the Plate at God’s Home Field of Faith.”
— Pastor Kyev Tatum
“Serve the Lord with gladness; come before His presence with singing.”
— Psalm 100:2 (KJV)
If life is just like a ball game, then New Mount Rose is God’s Home Field of Faith—a sacred diamond where hope is coached, character is conditioned, and faith is strengthened one inning at a time.
Every morning, life winds up and delivers its pitch.
Every evening, the scoreboard tells another story.
And at the New Mount Rose Bowl, we believe everybody gets a turn at the plate.
But we never step up empty-handed.
Here, we step up with Faith at the Plate.
Faith at the Plate is the quiet confidence that steadies your feet when the count is full. It is prayer beneath your breath, Scripture in your grip, and trust guiding your swing. It is knowing that even when the pitch comes fast and unexpected, God has already seen the outcome.
A Field Built on Legacy (Since 1964)
Faith at the Plate Before It Had a Name
Since 1964, New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church has stood in the heart of Morningside like a well-worn ballpark—tested by seasons, shaped by stories, and made sacred by the lives changed there. From the beginning, New Mount Rose understood that faith was never meant to be watched from the stands.
Faith must be played.
Faith must be practiced.
Faith must be passed on.
Long before the words were spoken, Pastor Milford Kelly lived Faith at the Plate. When working mothers faced impossible odds, he stepped into the batter’s box on their behalf—helping establish one of the city’s first nighttime daycare centers so families could survive, children could be safe, and hope could remain alive.
That was faith taking a swing—
Love in motion.
Ministry in real time.
“Let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.”
— 1 John 3:18 (KJV)
Carrying the Team Forward
Faith at the Plate for a New Generation
Since 2018, Pastor Kyev Tatum has been entrusted with guarding this sacred field—honoring the past while calling a new generation to step forward. With gratitude for those who laid the foundation and vision for what lies ahead, New Mount Rose continues to coach lives shaped by Scripture, justice rooted in love, and service driven by compassion.
At God’s Home Field of Faith, no one rides the bench.
Children learn how to stand tall.
Parents learn how to swing again.
Elders teach the fundamentals.
Seekers find their footing.
And when your name is called, you step forward—not in fear, but with Faith at the Plate.

The Chancellor Erma Johnson Hadley Education Center
Faith at the Plate for Opportunity and Access
Every great team needs a playbook. At the New Mount Rose Bowl, that playbook is faith-informed education, and its living chapter is the Chancellor Erma Johnson Hadley Education Center—a cornerstone of the field and a compass for the community.
Mrs. Erma Johnson Hadley proudly called herself “The Little Girl from Leggett,” a small East Texas logging town. From humble beginnings, she stepped into her own batter’s box and never stepped back. With courage, discipline, and faith, she became a pioneer and trailblazer in higher education—believing with her whole heart that every student should be given an opportunity to learn and lead in life.
For 47 years at Tarrant County College, she coached countless lives—serving as a leader, mentor, teacher, and trusted friend. She understood what New Mount Rose has always known: that education is not merely instruction, but empowerment.
Her life was a masterclass in Faith at the Plate.
Whether serving as the first African American and first female chair of the DFW Airport Board, guiding regional and national institutions, championing student success, or standing shoulder to shoulder with historically Black colleges and community organizations, Mrs. Hadley believed in leveling the field so others could run their race.
The Education Center that bears her name fulfills Pastor Milford Kelly’s commitment to education as sacred work and embodies Mrs. Hadley’s belief that access creates opportunity.
Today, families step up to the plate inside the Chancellor Erma Johnson Hadley Education Center.
Parents apply for jobs.
Enroll in school.
Access health care resources.
Prepare for meaningful employment.
Children grow in a safe, faith-centered environment—learning early that opportunity is not accidental, but intentional.
This is more than a computer lab.
This is a launching pad.
This is Faith at the Plate for the next inning.
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
— Proverbs 22:6 (KJV)
Education is ministry.
Access is advocacy.
Opportunity is part of the Gospel.
From the Field to the World
Faith at the Plate, In Every Season
At the New Mount Rose Bowl, prayer is our bat, faith is our form, and perseverance keeps us in the lineup. Christ stands at home plate—arms open—calling us home inning after inning.
New Mount Rose takes the Church to the community so the community can find its way back to grace. We step into the world with Faith at the Plate, confident that the same God who brought us to the field will walk with us all the way home.
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.”
— Mark 10:45 (KJV)
