FORT WORTH, TEXAS — On the final day of 2025, while most of the city prepared to welcome the New Year with celebration, a quieter yet deeply transformative scene was unfolding at New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church. In the heart of Fort Worth’s historic Morningside (76104) neighborhood, single parents and their children were choosing purpose over party, service over spectacle, and hope over hesitation.

This was Skills City, USA, a groundbreaking initiative that combines emergency preparedness, workforce readiness, and trauma-informed care into one integrated model—demonstrating how faith-based institutions can act as trusted anchors for civic, academic, and community partnerships.

“Let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” — Galatians 6:9 (KJV)

Families Serving Together

Children participated in God’s Army Winter Youth Camp, gaining mentorship, structure, and developmental support. At the same time, parents engaged in Project Stand Up, a New Mount Rose partnership with community organizations, while also participating in Skills City, USA. This holistic approach ensured that families could simultaneously grow spiritually, emotionally, and economically—closing out the year equipped for stability and success in 2026.

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” — Proverbs 22:6 (KJV)

Skills City: Preparedness, Workforce, and Healing

Launched in 2025, Skills City, USA serves underemployed residents—particularly single parents—by transforming volunteer service into structured workforce development. Participants engage in:

Workforce readiness and soft-skills development

Exposure to sector-aligned career pathways

Trauma-informed care addressing stress, instability, and barriers linked to adverse life experiences

“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.” — Psalm 147:3 (KJV)

By integrating these elements, Skills City produces measurable growth in engagement, consistency, and self-efficacy—showing the power of treating people as assets to be developed, not problems to be managed.

Civic and Academic Partnerships

A cornerstone of Skills City is its proposed partnership with the University of North Texas Emergency Management and Safety Services (EMSS). Through the Resilience Responders Initiative, participants gain real-world training in emergency preparedness, disaster response, and public safety career pathways.

Collaborations with Workforce Solutions of Tarrant County and the Ministers Justice Coalition of Texas extend the initiative’s reach, equipping residents—especially single parents transitioning from public assistance to employment—with the skills, confidence, and community trust necessary to serve as frontline leaders during crises.

“And who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” — Esther 4:14 (KJV)

Pamper City: A Trauma-Informed Offshoot

Out of Skills City emerged Pamper City, USA, a neighborhood-focused initiative designed to strengthen trauma-informed care within the 76104 community. Pamper City ensures residents can both receive support and provide service, reinforcing dignity, mutual responsibility, and belonging.

Core focus areas include:

Senior care and protection

Stabilization and peer support for single mothers

Access to basic needs for unhoused neighbors

Mentorship and guidance for youth

Integration of health, workforce, and community services

“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2 (KJV)

A Model for Impact and Opportunity

Skills City demonstrates a key insight for civic and academic partners: single parents are a resilient, capable workforce segment. When provided with coordinated training, trauma-informed support, and institutional partnerships, participants can achieve economic mobility, civic engagement, and leadership growth.

“My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9 (KJV)

Looking forward, Skills City and its complementary initiatives—Pamper City, USA, and Project Stand Up—offer a scalable, community-centered model for workforce development, emergency preparedness, and trauma-informed care, proving that faith-based institutions can drive meaningful social and economic transformation.

“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it.” — Philippians 1:6 (KJV)

Closing Reflection

As 2026 begins, New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church continues to serve as a trusted anchor in Morningside, demonstrating what’s possible when faith, workforce readiness, and trauma-informed care intersect with civic and academic partnerships.

“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think.” — Ephesians 3:20 (KJV)
