Day 7 - HAIL TO THE CHEF. HAIL TO JESUS CHRIST. Chef Nekeisha Serviss Cooks Food for the Soul at the New Mount Rose Warming Center.
HAIL TO THE CHEF. HAIL TO JESUS CHRIST. Chef Nekeisha Serviss Cooks Food for the Soul at the New Mount Rose Warming Center.
The Bible tells us about a ram in the bush — provision right on time.
At New Mount Rose, that provision showed up wrapped in an apron and answered to the name Chef Nekeisha Serviss.
A professional chef.
A gospel minister.
A servant with fire in her hands and faith in her heart.
Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, Chef Nekeisha is a graduate of Christ for the Nations Institute, where she was ordained into ministry. She later honed her culinary craft at the Culinary School of Fort Worth. God anointed her to preach — and trained her to plate.
She loves people. She loves feeding people. For her, the kitchen is not just a place of preparation — it is a place of consecration. An altar with burners.
She and her husband, Worrell Serviss, along with their beautiful daughters, Moriyah and Makariyah, call the Dallas–Fort Worth area home. And during this winter storm assignment, they made New Mount Rose feel like home for dozens of our unsheltered neighbors.
When Pastor Kyev P. Tatum, Sr. accepted the assignment to open the New Mount Rose Warming Center, he did so in faith — not knowing who would provide the meals.
But God knew.
On day one, Chef Wonderful “stopped by” and stirred up a Big Mama-sized pot of homemade chicken noodle soup. It wasn’t just soup.
It was warmth in a winter storm.
It was comfort in chaos.
It was dignity in a bowl.
Some neighbors had four and five servings — not just because they were hungry, but because they felt seen.
That first pot sparked a movement: no more survival food. Only home-cooked love.
Then Aracely Ramos stepped in and faithfully prepared breakfast, lunch, and dinner for several days. Skills City Resilience Responder JoJo Hogan followed with a rosemary chicken dinner that nourished body and soul alike.
But on the final night, the cry went up:
Hail to the Chef!
Chef Nikki returned — not alone — but with her entire family and friends. What they prepared could have been served in a five-star restaurant, but it was delivered with a servant’s heart.
The menu was nothing short of heavenly:
• Creamy baked mac & cheese
• Down-home Southern greens
• Homemade potato salad
• BBQ chicken
• Fluffy mashed potatoes
• Pinto beans
• Fruit cocktail
Every dish made from scratch.
Every plate served with love.
Every bite seasoned with grace.
It wasn’t just dinner.
It was ministry.
Our neighbors at the New Mount Rose Warming Center — and the missionaries serving alongside them — were fed physically and spiritually. It was Matthew 25 walking through the kitchen:
“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” — Matthew 25:40
So we say it boldly:
Hail to Chef Nekeisha.
Hail to Worrell.
Hail to Moriyah and Makariyah.
May God continue to bless the hands that fed the least of these.
And above all —
Hail to the Christ.
Jesus Christ our Lord.
