WE DREAM MEAN GREEN! UNT Football Team is Headed to Championship with 52-25 Win Over Temple.
DENTON, TEXAS - Today was a chilly and glorious Mean Green day in Denton, Texas — a day when the roar of the crowd met the rising dreams of our young people and children from Skills City, USA Resilience Responders at New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church. Former football players, coaches, alumni, and loyal fans filled the stadium, but the true spotlight rested on the children and students who experienced their very first college football game… and stepped into possibilities bigger than they ever imagined.
These parents, children and teens didn’t just witness a victory —
they witnessed a vision.
Thank you to every parent, supporter, and partner who believed in them enough to help make this moment happen. Your generosity is the bridge that carries dreams from the neighborhood to the university doorsteps.
Pastor Tatum shared these words of inspiration:
“We are excited about what our team is experiencing today and for their children to learn that college is possible if they are willing to put in the work, discipline, and commitment to finding their purpose and passion. I want them to know that if I can go to college and graduate, then it is possible for them as well.”
THE PURPOSE OF WE DREAM MEAN GREEN
We Dream Mean Green is not a field trip — it is a mission of transformation.
It is an outreach initiative designed to help inner-city parents, youth and families step beyond the boundaries of their neighborhood and see the world of opportunity waiting for them at places like the University of North Texas.
Every game gives a new perspective.
Every trip opens a new window.
Every campus experience plants a new seed.
This is exposure with purpose.
This is access with intention.
This is hope delivered in real time.
We dream. We discover. We deliver.
We Dream Mean Green.
A HISTORIC DAY FOR THE MEAN GREEN.
What a game for our students’ first-ever visit!
The Mean Green Football Team dominated Temple 52–25, closing the regular season at 11–1 — the first 11-win regular season in UNT history. This victory positioned North Texas for a spot in the American Conference Championship Game, and even placed them in the conversation for the 12-team College Football Playoff.
The postseason picture continues to develop, but history was made — and our youth were there to see it with their own eyes.
Even as head coach Eric Morris prepares to depart for Oklahoma State, and decisions loom regarding breakout quarterback Drew Mestemaker, the Mean Green spirit remains unstoppable — a perfect example for our young people of resilience, opportunity, and rising to meet your moment.
AND FOR OUR STUDENTS…
This wasn’t just a football game.
It was a moment of awakening.
The chants, the energy, the unity…
the campus, the pride, the excellence…
the feeling of belonging in a place built for learning and leadership…
It all whispered to them:
“College is not out of reach.
College is within your grasp.
College is for YOU.”
To all who sponsored and supported this first We Dream Mean Green experience — we love you, we thank you, and we appreciate every sacrifice you made to lift these young people higher than ever before.
