FORT WORTH, TEXAS — You never know how the Lord is going to move when you’re walking in the Spirit and following His voice.

“The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

— John 3:8 (NKJV)

When Pastor Kyev Tatum received a text from Vincent Sims of NBC 5 News asking if he knew anyone affected by the government shutdown, the pastor didn’t hesitate. He replied, “My entire team.”

At New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth’s 76104 community, the Skills City Resilience Responders serve faithfully every day—yet many rely on government assistance to care for their families. Pastor Tatum knew this shutdown would hit home hard. After speaking with the reporter, he agreed to arrange an interview with a few of the volunteers. His only instruction to the team was simple: the first two volunteers to walk through the church doors would be the ones to share their story.

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way.”

— Psalm 37:23

The two women who arrived first were humble and hesitant, unsure about being on camera. They wanted to pass the opportunity to someone else—but God had other plans. After prayer and encouragement, they courageously stepped forward, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak through them.

When the interview aired, it touched hearts across the Metroplex—more deeply than anyone could have imagined. Within days, Pastor Tatum received a call from a “Southlake Saint,” a sister in Christ who had seen the story and felt the Holy Spirit’s tug on her heart to help.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

— Matthew 5:16

After prayer and reflection, she gathered fellow believers from her church family in Southlake. Together, they decided to bless the Skills City volunteers with gift cards and encouragement, demonstrating that faith without works is dead (James 2:17).

When she arrived at New Mount Rose to deliver the blessings, she shared that she had been reading Jesus in Me by Anne Graham Lotz, daughter of the late Billy Graham. The book reminded her that the Holy Spirit is not an impersonal force, but “the invisible Jesus living in us.”

In her study, she had learned the seven biblical names of the Holy Spirit, each describing how He works in the life of every believer:

1. Helper — John 14:16

2. Comforter — John 14:26

3. Advocate — John 15:26

4. Intercessor — Romans 8:26

5. Counselor — Isaiah 11:2

6. Strengthener — Ephesians 3:16

7. Standby — Psalm 46:1

She confessed that the Spirit prompted her to “be Jesus in action” and to respond—not later, but now. That simple act of obedience united two communities—Southlake and Fort Worth, the affluent and the afflicted—through the power of the Holy Ghost.

“Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”

— 2 Corinthians 3:17

At that moment, everyone present felt the divine confirmation that this was not man’s doing, but God’s orchestration. It was the Jesus in us—the living Spirit that binds believers across boundaries of class, color, and community.

Pastor Tatum and the entire New Mount Rose family give all glory to God for the obedience of these Southlake Saints, who listened to the whisper of the Spirit and responded with compassion.

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”

— Romans 8:14

In a world divided by walls, God used a news story and two humble hearts to remind us all that the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us (Romans 8:11)—and that love in action is the truest evidence of His presence.

“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

— John 13:35
