Fatherhood Forward in Morningside: A Movement of Hope and Healing
Morningside is a neighborhood in crisis — and a community rising.
Located in the 76104 zip code, this proud community suffers from the lowest life expectancy in Texas — just 67 years on average, and only 64 for Black men. At the same time, Morningside Middle School faces underperformance and possible closure, further straining families already burdened by poverty, trauma, and systemic neglect.
But the fathers of Morningside are stepping up with urgency and unity.
Together, we are launching Fatherhood Forward in Morningside — a four-part grassroots movement designed to uplift fathers, strengthen families, and build a brighter future for our children through discipline, training, and self-respect.
Four Pillars of Fatherhood Forward in Morningside.
1. First Day Fathers
Tuesday, August 12, 2025 | 7:30 AM
Morningside Middle School, 2751 Mississippi Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76104
We’re calling on 100 fathers to show up and stand tall on the first day of school — to greet students, encourage excellence, and demonstrate a community of care. Your presence can change a child’s entire outlook on the year ahead.
Sponsored by Hope Farm and New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church.
2. The Morningside Million Fathers March
Friday, September 19, 2025 | 8:00 AM
This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the Million Fathers March, originally founded by Phillip Jackson in Chicago. What began as a single father walking his child to school has become a nationwide declaration: Fathers matter. Presence matters. Community matters.
We will march a symbolic mile through the heart of Morningside — from Atatiana Jefferson Memorial Parkway down Mississippi Avenue to Morningside Middle School. Every step is a stand for visibility, accountability, and a new vision for fatherhood.
This march is more than symbolic — it’s strategic.
We’re walking our children into classrooms, into confidence, and into futures shaped by love and leadership.
3. Fatherhood Forward: Local Power, National Movement
Inspired by the national Fathers Incorporated campaign, our local Fatherhood Forward movement is designed to:
• Support Black fathers with mentorship, mental health resources, and peer connection
• Promote academic achievement through father engagement in schools
• Reinforce traditional values like discipline, respect, and responsibility in young men
• Improve the health and life expectancy of Black fathers in our zip code and beyond
Fatherhood isn’t optional — it’s essential infrastructure.
4. The Morningside Community Response
In response to school closures, public health gaps, and spiritual disconnection, we are creating a Fatherhood-First Ecosystem:
• Leadership and life-skills training for fathers
• Youth mentorship and rites of passage programs
• School and church partnerships to enhance parent engagement
• Faith-fueled community mobilization to restore dignity and discipline
A New Day in Morningside
Twenty years ago, Phillip Jackson said:
“Fathers are not accessories to education. They are architects of it.”
Today, Morningside answers that call with bold conviction.
We are rebuilding the village — one father, one child, one mile at a time.
Join us.
All Fathers Welcome
We invite every father, grandfather, uncle, coach, mentor, pastor, and brother to stand with us. Whether you walk a mile, greet a student, or lead a workshop — you matter, and your presence makes a difference.
