FIRST DAY FATHERS Launch the “Street to Success” at Morningside Middle School. Fathers and Father Figures Rally to Encourage Students to Be Fruitful on the First Day of School in Fort Worth, Texas.

The first day of school at Morningside Middle School didn’t just start with bells — it started with a wave of hope, energy, and pride. For the first time, First Day Fathers lined up to create a Street to Success for every student walking through those doors.

You could feel it in the air. Fathers, grandfathers, uncles, mentors, and former Morningside students stood shoulder-to-shoulder, giving high fives, speaking words of encouragement, and showing our young people what it looks like when men show up for their future. Parents were beaming, students were smiling, and the community was united in one mission: to launch our children into a year of purpose and possibility.

“This is something we’ve dreamed about for years,” said Pastor Felton Jenkins, founder of the Boys2Men Mentor Group and a proud Morningside alum. “Thanks to Dr. Mario Choice and Hope Farm for pulling us all together. Today, we showed our kids that they matter — and that their success matters to us.”

From pastors to business leaders to neighborhood fathers, the “Street to Success” was filled with role models determined to make an impact. And this is just the beginning. The momentum from this event is sparking the launch of First Friday Fathers — a monthly tradition where men gather on the first Friday of every month to greet, encourage, and inspire students to give their maximum effort while knowing they have maximum support.

This movement is deeply personal for the Morningside community. In the 76104 zip code, life expectancy is the lowest in Texas — just 67 years, and only 64 for Black men. Morningside Middle School is facing the threat of closure. Families here live with the daily pressures of poverty, trauma, and systemic neglect. But these fathers are refusing to sit back. They’re showing up with urgency, unity, and love.

The power of this movement will grow even stronger on Friday, September 19, 2025, with the 20th Anniversary of the Million Fathers March — a nationwide call to action originally founded by Phillip Jackson in Chicago. What began with one father walking his child to school has become a bold, coast-to-coast declaration: Fathers matter. Presence matters. Community matters.

In Fort Worth, we will march a symbolic mile through the heart of Morningside — from Atatiana Jefferson Memorial Parkway down Mississippi Avenue to Morningside Middle School. Every step will be a stand for visibility, accountability, and a new vision for fatherhood in our city.

This isn’t just symbolic — it’s strategic. We’re walking our children into classrooms, into confidence, and into futures shaped by love, leadership, and legacy.
