FILLING BOWLS AND BLESSING SOULS AT NEW MOUNT ROSE

A Living Tribute: Fighting Hunger as a Way to Remember 9/11.

September 11th will always remain a solemn date in American history. On that day in 2001, thousands of lives were lost in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania. Across the nation, communities continue to gather in remembrance—not only to honor the victims and first responders, but also to reaffirm values of unity, compassion, and resilience.

This year, that remembrance takes on a powerful and practical form in Fort Worth, Texas. On Thursday, September 11, 2025, the New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church will host the New Mount Rose 9/11 Community Food Bowl, distributing more than 12,000 pounds of food to families in need. More than an act of charity, this event is an act of remembrance—an acknowledgment that the best way to honor those who are gone is to care for those who are still here. As Proverbs 19:17 reminds us, “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.”

The New Mount Rose 9/11 Community Food Bowl, supported by the Midwest Food Bank, Ministers Justice Coalition, Tarrant County Sheriff’s Labor Detail, Workforce Solutions, and Secured Moving Company, directly addresses one of the most pressing challenges in our community: hunger. In Fort Worth’s inner-city neighborhoods—as in cities across the nation—families often struggle between paying for rent, utilities, or food. By organizing large-scale food distributions, the church is not only filling bowls, but also blessing souls, affirming the dignity and worth of every individual. As Jesus declared in Matthew 25:35, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.”

For more than 60 years, New Mount Rose has been a long-term investor in the Morningside community, standing as a beacon of hope and light. Its ministry extends beyond worship services, reaching into education, workforce training, youth empowerment, hunger relief, and justice advocacy. Locally rooted but globally connected, the church’s impact has been felt not only in Fort Worth but also across the nation and around the world—proof that a faithful neighborhood church can influence lives far beyond its walls. Truly living the charge of Matthew 5:14, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.”

The tragedy of 9/11 revealed how deeply loss can wound a nation, but also how compassion and solidarity can help heal it. First responders rushed toward danger, neighbors helped neighbors, and ordinary people extended extraordinary kindness. It is in that same spirit that Fort Worth’s remembrance takes shape—not only through silence and sorrow, but through service that restores hope.

By hosting the New Mount Rose 9/11 Community Food Bowl, the church transforms remembrance into action. This living memorial ensures that honoring the fallen is not only about looking back but about reaching forward—into the future, into the community, and into the lives of families who might otherwise go without. As Galatians 6:2 teaches us, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

As food is placed into the hands of the hungry, what is truly being served is hope, dignity, and resilience. The New Mount Rose 9/11 Community Food Bowl is not just a day of service—it is a lasting testament that tragedy does not have the final word. Community does. Compassion does. Faith does. And New Mount Rose continues to shine as a beacon, guiding the way for Morningside, for Fort Worth, and for the world.
