BACKWOODS AND RED DIRT ROADS: EAST TEXAS’ BLACK SOLDIERS WHO SHAPED AMERICA. From backwoods homesteads and red dirt roads, Black East Texans have made extraordinary contributions to America’s way of life. With more than 12,400 Black men and women serving in both World Wars alone, East Texas became one of the nation’s greatest recruiting grounds for Black military service. These brave sons and daughters carried the spirit of their communities onto the world stage—serving in legendary units like the 24th Infantry Regiment, the 369th Harlem Hellfighters, the Tuskegee Airmen, the 6888th Central Postal Battalion, the Montford Point Marines, and the 477th Bombardment Group. Their sacrifices helped secure freedom abroad and planted the seeds of justice and equality at home. When they returned, they built churches, schools, and businesses, transforming their wartime courage into peacetime leadership. Their legacy is more than military history—it is a living testament to how faith, resilience, ...

COMMUNITY FOOD BOWL AT NEW MOUNT ROSE LAUNCHES NEW PASTOR’S AIDE PANTRY PROJECT FORT WORTH, TEXAS — Five years ago, at the height of the 2020 pandemic, the Ministers Justice Coalition called pastors to the frontlines. From that moment until now, local pastors have poured out their time, talent, and treasure to make sure their churches and communities had food, resources, and hope in one of our most vulnerable seasons. With the help of sponsors and partners, New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church and the Ministers Justice Coalition have distributed more than $25 million in aid between 2020 and 2025. Yet, while serving others, many pastors have quietly struggled to provide for their own families and churches. The Ministers Justice Coalition is determined to change this reality by creating a support system for the very leaders who carried our communities through the storm. Pastor Kyev Tatum has developed a new ministry model called the Pastor’s Aide Pantry — a church-based initiative th...
