COUNTING ON CHEESECAKE FROM CRANDALL: Slugger Kinsler Ray Farmer Steps Up Big as Local Champion at the Rube Foster Pitch Hit & Run Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas.

COUNTING ON CHEESECAKE FROM CRANDALL: Slugger Kinsler Ray Farmer Steps Up Big as Local Champion at the Rube Foster Pitch Hit & Run Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas. By Pastor Kyev Tatum, New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church of Fort Worth sent, Texas.

FORT WORTH, TEXAS — When the call went out to the youth of North Texas to show up, step up, and shine on the baseball diamond, they answered like champions. From Arlington to Coppell, Grand Prairie to Rhome, and yes—from Burleson, Crowley, and Mansfield too—they even came from Oklahoma—families flooded into Gateway Park in Fort Worth for a moment that was much bigger than baseball.

They came with gloves in hand and fire in their hearts. These weren’t just kids killing time on a weekend—these were focused, faith-filled, and fiercely competitive young athletes, ages 7 to 14, ready to pitch, hit, and run in the name of Rube Foster, the Father of Black Baseball and a pioneer of purpose and progress.

But in the middle of all the noise, the talent, and the big dreams, one name echoed louder than the rest:

Kinsler Ray Farmer.

Better known across Crandall as “Cheesecake.”

That’s right—Cheesecake from Crandall! A hometown hero with a big bat and an even bigger heart. Representing a town of just over 5,000 people and located 55 miles east of Fort Worth, Cheesecake stepped onto the field with quiet confidence and left with the title of Local Champion, ready to move on and represent Fort Worth on the next level of the MLB Pitch Hit & Run Regional Competition.

And let’s be clear: Cheesecake is more than just a great baseball name. He’s a complete young man—a scholar, a servant, and a shining example of what happens when faith meets focus.

After a heartfelt conversation with his proud mother, Julie Smith, we learned just how special this young man truly is. Kinsler is an honors student at Crandall Middle School and is on an accelerated track to graduate with both a high school diploma and an associate’s degree. His dream? To become a veterinarian, working with animals and serving the people in his rural Texas community.

But what truly makes Cheesecake special is his work ethic and his faith in God. He works odd jobs on local farms to earn money to support his baseball dreams. He thanks God for every opportunity and always carries himself with the grace and grit of a young man raised right.

He’s not just swinging for fences—he’s aiming for the future.

As the host and founder of the Rube Foster Pitch Hit & Run Invitational, I can say without hesitation:

We’re counting on Cheesecake.

Counting on him to shine. Counting on him to lead.

Counting on him to represent Fort Worth and all of Texas with excellence.

Cheesecake reminds us that dreams still matter, and that hard work, heart work, and faith work together to produce greatness.

Let your light shine before others.

Matthew 5:16.
