A Different Kind of Freedom: Fort Worth Youth Choose Peace Over Violence This Fourth of July.

Last year, Fort Worth, Texas made national headlines during the July 4th weekend and Father’s Day 2025 due to a tragic surge in gun violence across the city. But this year told a different story—one of restraint, responsibility, and remarkable growth.

For the first time in recent memory, the 2025 Independence Day weekend came and went without a single reported shooting or death related to gun violence in Fort Worth.

“We want to take a moment to commend our young people for making a powerful and purposeful choice,” said Pastor Kyev Tatum of New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church. “They kept their composure, celebrated safely, and showed us all that joy doesn’t have to come with gunfire. They made a conscious decision to have fun without firearms—and we are letting them know we see them, we salute them, and we sincerely appreciate their courage and leadership.”

This peaceful weekend stands as a testament to what’s possible when community, faith, and young people come together to write a new narrative—one that honors life, liberty, and the pursuit of peace.
