MOTHER ROSE: Filling Bowls and Blessing Souls at New Mount Rose.

FORT WORTH, TEXAS - Since its faithful planting in 1964, New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church has served as a sacred beacon of hope, healing, and holistic ministry in the heart of Southside Fort Worth. Known today as “Mother Rose,” this historic congregation has matured into more than just a church—it is a spiritual matriarch, nurturing generations with the love of Christ and the power of community.

Just as a devoted mother feeds her children, tends their wounds, and guides their growth, Mother Rose has been a source of comfort, wisdom, and strength for countless lives. From its humble origins to its present-day outreach, this ministry has filled bowls with food, souls with faith, and neighborhoods with new life.

A Legacy Rooted in Love

Planted by Pastor Milford Kelly during the height of the Civil Rights Movement, New Mount Rose was born out of struggle and shaped by hope. It quickly became a refuge for African American families who sought not only a house of worship, but a house of righteous resistance.

From organizing voter drives to hosting freedom clinics, New Mount Rose stood tall as a cradle of justice and a classroom of discipleship. In every era since, it has been a training ground for leaders and a healing place for the brokenhearted.

A Clinic Without Walls

Today, Mother Rose operates as a Clinic Without Walls, where the needs of body, mind, and soul are treated with dignity and love. This is a church where ministry moves beyond the pulpit, serving the people seven days a week—right where they are.

Food Insecurity? Mother Rose combats hunger through monthly Community Food Bowls, feeding hundreds of families in partnership with local food banks, farmers, and volunteers.

Gun Violence & Trauma? The church stands as a safe place and spiritual hospital, where grieving families, troubled youth, and weary hearts find refuge, counseling, and care.

Health Inequities? Mother Rose leads the way in promoting health education, chronic illness prevention, mental health awareness, and wellness programs that bridge the life expectancy gap in underserved communities.

Educational Barriers & Economic Despair? Through its “Head of the College, Heart of the Church, and Hands of the Community” model, Mother Rose partners with local institutions to help shape minds, stir dreams, and secure brighter futures.

Bibles Without Borders

A shining example of its unifying mission is the church’s Vacation Bible School (VBS)—a multicultural, intergenerational gathering that brings together three cities, numerous congregations, and diverse cultures under the name of Jesus Christ. It is not just a summer event—it is a spiritual summit that breaks barriers and builds bridges.

At VBS, young people learn biblical truths. Families rediscover faith. And communities come together under one cross, one calling, and one Christ.

A Community Anchor

Mother Rose is more than a Sunday service—it is a movement of mercy and mission. Whether distributing blankets to students, delivering meals to seniors, or providing resources to single parents, this church has become a foundation of faith and forward motion in Fort Worth.

Under the visionary and community-centered leadership of Pastor Kyev Tatum, Mother Rose has become a citywide convener and national voice, blending gospel preaching with justice teaching—shaping policy while shaping people.

A Lasting Impact

The work of Mother Rose is not symbolic—it is structural, spiritual, and systemic. The church is actively confronting the most pressing issues facing urban communities:

Gun Violence: Through prayer walks, youth mentoring, and peacemaking partnerships.

Food Deserts: Through mobile food distributions and nutrition education.

Economic Inequity: Through entrepreneurship support and job-readiness training.

Hopelessness: Through the preaching of the gospel and daily acts of love.

At every level, Mother Rose is declaring: “We are the hands and feet of Jesus in Fort Worth.”

Mother Rose of the City

Yes, New Mount Rose has become Mother Rose of the City—always caring, always sharing, and always giving God the glory.

Though her physical address may sit on Mississippi Avenue, her influence reaches every neighborhood, every zip code, and every soul that cries out for hope.

Filling Bowls and Blessing Souls is more than a slogan at Mother Rose—it’s a sacred covenant. It is the heart of who we are. It is the mission we live out every day. It is the mantle we carry for generations to come.
