KEEP FORT WORTH BEAUTIFUL: Buffalo Soldiers and New Mount Rose: Restoring Hope in Morningside 76104 on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 10AM.
Uniting for Legacy, Learning, and Love in Fort Worth
Fort Worth, Texas — In the sacred soil of Fort Worth’s historic Morningside neighborhood, a new ministry is blooming—one rooted in faith, heritage, and the unshakable belief that our children deserve more than just protection. They deserve purpose.
On Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 10 a.m., New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church and Christian Academy, in partnership with the Texas Buffalo Soldiers Association and Keep Fort Worth Beautiful, will lead a community-wide cleanup and call to action. The event begins at 2864 Mississippi Avenue, the home of a church that is planting seeds of dignity and destiny for the next generation.
“When we love where we live, we begin to love who we are,” said Pastor Kyev Tatum. “This movement is about restoring hope through heritage and heart—starting right here in 76104.”
A Ministry with Meaning: Where Church and Community Walk Together
At the heart of this mission is a sacred partnership between New Mount Rose and the Texas Buffalo Soldiers Association—a bond of memory and mission designed to empower youth with the lessons of the past and the tools to shape their future.
Together, they will launch the Buffalo Soldiers Summer Youth Program, a free, faith-infused initiative for children ages 7 to 14, offering:
• Outdoor education: camping, fishing, animal care, and survival skills
• Life lessons: discipline, etiquette, self-respect, and teamwork
• Cultural immersion: field trips, reenactments, and living history
• Mentoring: from elders, veterans, faith leaders, and educators
The camp begins in July and will run Monday–Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at New Mount Rose. This is not just a program—it is a sanctuary for young hearts searching for direction, identity, and pride.
“If our kids know their history, they’ll start shaping their destiny,” said Clinton Warren, U.S. Army veteran and mentor.
A Museum of Memory: Honoring the Buffalo Soldiers in Morningside
Also launching this July, New Mount Rose will open the Buffalo Soldiers Museum—right on church grounds. This sacred space will honor the legacies of the 9th and 10th Cavalry and the 24th and 25th Infantry—Black soldiers who served with unmatched courage, paving the way for generations to come.
The museum will showcase:
• Historic uniforms, photographs, and military artifacts
• Interactive exhibits for students and families
• Special tributes to pioneers like Cathay Williams and Henry Flipper
“This museum is a ministry of memory,” said Pastor Tatum. “It’s our gift to the future and a living tribute to the past.”
To bring this vision to life, the church is calling on the community for:
• Donated mannequins, uniforms, photos, and artifacts
• $50,000 in funding to support meals, transportation, and educational materials
• Volunteers to help organize, guide, and inspire
Keep Fort Worth Beautiful: Beautification as a Spiritual Act
This community cleanup is made possible through the partnership with Keep Fort Worth Beautiful, a civic movement dedicated to enhancing neighborhoods, engaging families, and encouraging environmental pride.
On June 28, volunteers will gather not only to pick up litter—but to lift up legacy, to nurture public spaces, and to show our children that their community is worth the care.
“This isn’t just a cleanup—it’s a covenant,” Pastor Tatum said. “When we show up with love and labor, our children see they matter.”
Guns to Gardens: Turning Brokenness into Blossoms
As part of its mission to cultivate peace and wholeness, New Mount Rose is honored to participate in the Guns to Gardens ministry—a national effort where surrendered firearms are transformed into garden tools.
In partnership with churches across Tarrant County, the ministry embodies the biblical vision of turning swords into plowshares, offering hope where fear once grew. This is ministry with muscle and meaning—a real response rooted in peace and possibility.
“We’re not just talking about change—we’re planting it,” said Pastor Tatum.
Buffalo Soldiers Weekend: July 26–28, 2025
The celebration continues during Buffalo Soldiers Weekend, culminating on Buffalo Soldiers Day, July 28—a date declared by Presidential Proclamation in 1992.
This weekend will feature:
• A public tribute to the Buffalo Soldiers
• Educational workshops and reenactments
• Youth leadership presentations and community prayer services
• A living history exhibit honoring the legacy of African American military service
“We did our job with honor to make this world a better place to live in,” said William Jones, former Buffalo Soldier of the 9th and 10th Cavalry.
Let us now carry that honor forward.
