HOPE IN AN ENVELOPE: The Journey of the Texas 6888th Project, Featuring the Little Miss 6888th Ambassadors from 2022–2025.

From No Mail, Low Morale to Historic Recognition on the Hill, the Texas 6888th Project has become a living legacy of remembrance, respect, and rising voices.

What began in February 2022 with the purchase of the groundbreaking documentary No Mail, Low Morale—in collaboration with Colonel Edna Cummings, the 6888th’s Congressional Gold Medal Champion and author of A Soldier’s Life—ignited a statewide movement to honor the 44 courageous Black women from Texas who served in the legendary 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion during World War II.

This all-Black, all-female unit, known as the “Six Triple Eight,” was a beacon of order and excellence in the chaos of war. Their mission was clear: sort and deliver millions of letters and packages to American soldiers in the European theater—bringing hope in every envelope. And they did so with speed, dignity, and military precision.

Over the past three years, the Texas 6888th Project has grown into a multifaceted educational and community engagement effort:

February 2022: The journey begins with the documentary and partnership with Col. Cummings.

November 2023: Over My Dead Body Veterans Day screening of No Mail, Low Morale sparks renewed public interest.

February 15, 2024: Black History Month screening – The Grit, The Guts & Now The Glory – draws educators, students, and veterans together.

December 27, 2024: A Kwanzaa Celebration honors the soldiers of the 6888th with culture and community unity.

        •       February 12, 2025, President George W. Bush Center, Six Triple Eight: Quiet Heroism During WWII in Dallas, Texas.

April 28–May 1, 2025: Delegates from Fort Worth attend the Congressional Gold Medal Ceremonies in Washington, D.C., as the nation finally honors the valor of the Six Triple Eight.

May 22, 2025: Thanks to Rep. Harold Dutton, the Texas House of Representatives officially commends the 44 Texas women of the battalion.

May 24, 2025: The historic freedmen’s community of Pelham recognizes the 6888th in their Memorial Day tribute.

June 10, 2025: Councilman Chris Nettles and the Fort Worth City Council issue a proclamation honoring the 3 Fort Worth members of the battalion.

At the heart of this movement are the Little Miss 6888th Ambassadors—young girls dressed in honor of the Six Triple Eight, embodying the courage, grace, and determination of the women who came before them. These “living legacies” have traveled from church halls to the Library of Congress, spreading awareness, honoring ancestors, and rewriting the pages of American history with each salute.

Now officially recognized as the Little Miss 6888th Historians, these young ambassadors:

Attended the Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony in D.C.

Donated oral histories to the Veterans History Project at the Library of Congress

Received mentorship and golf clubs from LPGA Hall of Fame Coach Gladys Lee

Serve as storytellers, standard-bearers, and scholars of the 6888th legacy

Headquartered on the campus of New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth, the Texas 6888th Project stands as a community-powered initiative grounded in faith, fueled by education, and devoted to dignity.

A Sincere Note of Gratitude

We offer our deepest appreciation for the divine opportunity to promote, protect, and preserve the life, love, and legacy of Lt. Col. Charity Adams, commanding officer of the 6888th, and every Texas woman who stood with her.

Their service was once forgotten.

Their voices were once silenced.

Now—through us—they live on.

Let us continue to deliver hope in every envelope as we educate, uplift, and inspire the next generation.

Six Triple Eight. Forever Forward, Faithfully.
