Every Saturday in July @ 10AM | Ages 7–14 | Free of Charge

FORT WORTH, TEXAS – The legendary spirit of the Buffalo Soldiers gallops into Fort Worth this summer with the official launch of CAMP BUFFALO SOLDIERS on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church in the heart of Morningside. This dynamic and life-shaping summer experience happens every Saturday in July at 10AM and is absolutely FREE for children ages 7 to 14!

Hosted by Pastor Kyev Tatum and powered by the Texas Buffalo Soldiers Association, this hands-on youth camp fuses rich African American military history with real-life skills, empowering today’s youth with the knowledge, pride, and tools they need to thrive.

“This is more than a summer camp—it’s a rescue mission,” said Pastor Tatum. “We’re taking back our children from the streets with structure, discipline, dignity and hope.”

A Camp with a Mission

In response to the rising tide of youth gun violence—where tragically, 10 children lost their lives to shootings in Fort Worth in 2023 alone—Camp Buffalo Soldiers stands tall as a proactive, positive, and powerful solution rooted in heritage, mentorship, and purpose.

Participants will learn traditional frontier survival skills once practiced by the original Buffalo Soldiers, all while exploring the contributions of Black military heroes and pioneers like:

Henry O. Flipper, the first Black West Point graduate

Cathay Williams, the only documented female Buffalo Soldier

Medgar Evers, WWII veteran and civil rights icon

Stagecoach Mary Fields, trailblazing postal worker and pioneer.

        •       Women of the 6888th.

A Living Museum in the Making

New Mount Rose will also dedicate a Buffalo Soldiers Heritage Room on July 27, 2025, featuring historic artifacts, uniforms, and educational displays. Community support is needed to donate mannequins, artifacts, and help raise $50,000 for transportation, meals, and supplies.

History Comes Alive: Buffalo Soldiers Day | Sunday, July 27 @ 11AM

This month-long camp journey climaxes with a special Buffalo Soldiers Day Celebration on Sunday, July 27 at 11AM at New Mount Rose!

Join us for a powerful worship service, community supper, and a rallying show of support for Camp Buffalo Soldiers. All are welcome to attend and stand in solidarity with this movement to uplift and protect our children.

Meet the Mentors & Missionaries

This year’s camp will be led by a dream team of dedicated historians, veterans, and educators:

Clinton Warren, U.S. Army Veteran: “History gives our kids pride—and pride gives them power.”

RosieLeetta Reed, TBSA President: “We’re showing young people that they come from greatness.”

Sam Allen, 25-year youth educator: “These stories can save lives and build strong communities.”

From the Rosewood Massacre to Madam C.J. Walker, from the Houston Riots of 1917 to the courage of the Black Seminoles, Camp Buffalo Soldiers is committed to telling the full story of Black America’s contribution to this country—and showing today’s youth how to build a better tomorrow.
