THE BURDEN TO BE BETTER

“To whom much is given, much will be required.” — Luke 12:48 (NKJV)

“This history [the 6888th] has now restored the passion of service, as evidenced by young girls who now dress up as members of the Six Triple Eight.”

— Ret. Col. Edna Cummings, Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony, April 29, 2025

The Journey Forward: An Unforgettable Experience in Washington, D.C.

On April 29, 2025, history was made—and two extraordinary young girls from Fort Worth, Texas, stood right at the heart of it.

As the nation gathered at Emancipation Hall in the United States Capitol to present the Congressional Gold Medal to the trailblazing women of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, Kailey Williams and Torie Hunter—ambassadors of the Little Miss 6888th ministry of New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church—stood as living links between past sacrifice and future promise. Among national leaders, military heroes, and descendants, these young visionaries represented not only Fort Worth, but the enduring power of legacy, leadership, and faith.

But this was more than a trip—it was a transformative call to purpose. Torie Hunter, the granddaughter of Pastor Kyev Tatum, did more than witness history—she helped make it. Torie painted both tribute portraits unveiled during the ceremony: one honoring Lieutenant Colonel Charity Adams Earley, the commanding officer of the 6888th, and another illustrating the unity, strength, and sisterhood of the battalion. Her powerful artwork brought the story of these courageous women to life—not just to be seen, but to be felt.

Their journey became a living testimony. During her keynote remarks, Retired Colonel Edna Cummings, who directed the 2019 documentary on the 6888th, paused to acknowledge the presence and impact of the Little Miss 6888th. The girls’ poise, presence, and purpose moved lawmakers, military guests, and media producers alike. They didn’t just attend—they embodied the call to carry on the legacy. As Colonel Cummings noted, “This history has now restored the passion of service.”

The Little Miss 6888th Ambassadors ministry—founded by Pastor Kyev Tatum and supported by New Mount Rose and the Ministers Justice Coalition of Texas—was created to inspire, educate, and elevate young girls from Fort Worth’s most underserved neighborhoods. Through mentorship, cultural literacy, and faith-based guidance, the program prepares its Ambassadors to be “ladies of excellence and leaders of legacy.”

Kailey and Torie returned home not just with memories, but with a mission. They are now stewards of a sacred story—armed with the wisdom of history and the courage to lead. They are living proof that the legacy of the 6888th is alive, vibrant, and in capable hands.

New Mount Rose proudly serves as the home of the Little Miss 6888th, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to preserve, protect, and promote this powerful legacy—through the hearts, minds, and hands of our girls.
