CANDY CITY: CELEBRATING CANDY CLARK’S HOMECOMING TO FORT WORTH, TEXAS.

Buckle up, Fort Worth — because on June 21, the city transforms into Candy City, a full-throttle, chrome-dipped celebration of one of its brightest stars: the incomparable Candy Clark.

On this special day, Cowtown shifts into reverse and roars back to the golden age of cruising with The American Graffiti Tribute Classic Car Show at Streetside Classics (5400 Sandshell Dr., for you early birds revving your engines). But this isn’t just a car show — it’s a V8-fueled nostalgia fest with a Hollywood legend at its center.

That’s right — Candy Clark, Fort Worth’s own, the unforgettable Debbie Dunham from George Lucas’ groundbreaking American Graffiti (1973), is coming home for a birthday bash and homecoming that promises more sparkle than a freshly polished hot rod.

A HOMETOWN LEGEND RETURNS

Born in Oklahoma and raised in Fort Worth, Candy Clark’s journey from Texas girl to Academy Award-nominated actress is pure cinematic magic. She stole America’s heart in American Graffiti — earning a Best Supporting Actress nomination — and never looked back. With a career spanning over five decades, Candy has starred alongside greats like David Bowie in The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976), graced cult classics like Fat City and The Big Sleep, and cemented her place in the pantheon of American film legends.

But Candy’s magic isn’t just in her film credits. She’s a symbol of resilience, creativity, and the Fort Worth spirit — someone who’s carried her Texas roots with pride through every role, every red carpet, every set.

Her return to Fort Worth isn’t just a visit; it’s a celebration of her legacy, her artistry, and the hometown that helped shape her.

CANDY’S BIRTHDAY BASH & THE ULTIMATE TRIBUTE CARS

At the center of the day’s action is Lubbock hot rodder and American Graffiti superfan Rich Puryear, whose passion turned into a one-man tribute project.

It all started in August 2024 when Rich got his hands on a ’55 Chevy — just like the one Harrison Ford’s Bob Falfa burned rubber in (sorry, spoilers). But one car wasn’t enough. Soon, his collection exploded: the ’58 Chevy Impala, John Milner’s iconic yellow ’32 Ford coupe, the quirky Citroën 2CV, a sleek chopped ’51 Mercury, and even a Vespa GS 160 for the perfect finishing touch.

These aren’t replicas — they’re tribute cars. Rebuilt, reimagined, and fine-tuned with modern mechanics, they’re love letters on wheels to the era Candy helped immortalize on screen.

And the cherry on top? The entire event doubles as Candy Clark’s 78th Birthday Bash (and a mini-Trimble Tech High School reunion — Class of 1965, represent!). Candy will be signing books, sharing Hollywood stories, posing for photos, and likely reminding us all how effortlessly cool she still is.

A DAY OF CINEMATIC CELEBRATION

June 21 isn’t just about the cars — it’s about honoring the woman who gave us unforgettable characters and decades of cinematic magic.

With film screenings, conversations, classic cars, and heartfelt tributes, Fort Worth becomes Candy City for a day — a city saying thank you to its own.

Thank you, Candy, for the laughter.

Thank you for the tears.

Thank you for the unforgettable performances that left a mark on our hearts and on Hollywood history.
