Project Honoring the Prestigious Legacy of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion and Fort Worth’s Black Women Veterans.

Washington, D.C. — April 2025 — In a moment of deep national reverence, the Texas 6888th Project, under the leadership of Pastor Kyev P. Tatum, Sr. of Fort Worth, Texas, has been formally selected to participate in the esteemed Veterans History Project (VHP) at the Library of Congress. This invitation represents an extraordinary privilege and is a profound recognition of the Project’s commitment to uplifting the stories of Black women veterans whose sacrifices have long gone unheralded.

The Veterans History Project, established by Congress in 2000 and housed in the Library’s American Folklife Center, is one of the nation’s most prestigious archival initiatives, ensuring that the voices of American veterans are preserved with dignity and reverence for generations to come. It is a historic honor for the Texas 6888th Project to serve in this national effort, particularly during the week the 6888th Battalion is awarded the Congressional Gold Medal—one of the highest civilian honors in the United States.

“We are humbled to serve in this sacred endeavor,” said Pastor Tatum. “The inclusion of Fort Worth’s Black women veterans in the permanent records of the Library of Congress is a monumental moment. It ensures that their courage, patriotism, and resilience will live on—not only in our memories but in the official archives of this nation.”
