WHEN DOVES FLY: Six Triple Eight Sunday at New Mount Rose on Palm Sunday, April 13, 2025 ๐น
On this sacred Palm Sunday, New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church joyfully introduced the Little Miss 6888th Historians to the congregation during our special observance of Six Triple Eight Sunday. This deeply meaningful moment marks a new chapter in our ongoing commitment to preserve, protect, and promote the extraordinary legacy of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion — the only all-Black, all-female battalion deployed overseas during World War II.
These bright young ladies are not only students of history — they are now stewards of heritage, preparing to carry this story from our sanctuary to the nation’s capital.
As they get ready to attend the 6888th Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony in Washington, D.C., they are also preparing to make history themselves. The Little Miss 6888th Historians will present the stories of African American veterans to the Veterans History Project at the Library of Congress — honoring their service on behalf of the 43 Yellow Roses from Texas, and uplifting the voices of those who paved the way with valor, integrity, and sacrifice.

Honoring the Past, Empowering the Future: The Significance of Our Little Miss 6888th Historians
We are witnessing something truly special: a new generation of young Black girls stepping boldly into the role of historians, storytellers, and community leaders. Through the Little Miss 6888th Historians ministry, these remarkable young ladies are not only learning about our Black military heritage — they are becoming the keepers and sharers of it.
By studying the legacy of the 6888th Battalion, these girls are reclaiming a vital piece of American history too often left untold. They are learning discipline, pride, and purpose as they connect with the strength, courage, and brilliance of the women who came before them. And even more powerfully, they are learning to lead by lifting up those stories in their own voices.
This work is sacred. These young ladies are not just absorbing history; they are breathing new life into it. Through presentations, performances, public ceremonies, and peer mentoring, they are becoming ambassadors of truth and legacy — a living tribute to the women of the 6888th and a bright light for generations to come.
