Fort Worth, TX — Pastor Kyev Tatum and First Lady Tonya Tatum of New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas, will lead a distinguished delegation to Washington, D.C., to attend the long-awaited 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, in Emancipation Hall at the U.S. Capitol.
This historic event honors the legacy of the 6888th Postal Battalion, the only all-Black, all-female unit to serve overseas during World War II. Their extraordinary courage, tireless service, and commitment to clearing the mail backlog in Europe have now been recognized with one of the nation’s highest civilian honors—the Congressional Gold Medal.
As part of the national celebration, the Little Miss 6888th Historians and members of the Fort Worth delegation have also been invited to attend the Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony Reception, hosted by the Library of Congress Veterans History Project (VHP) and Leave No Veteran Behind. This reception will celebrate the lasting impact of the 6888th and honor the invaluable contributions of its members to American history and the U.S. military.

Donor Recognition Opportunity at the Library of Congress
During this momentous occasion, the Library of Congress will host a Recognition of Donor Collection & Presentation for Families. Relatives of 6888th veterans are encouraged to bring 8x10 photographs of their loved ones for display. They will be given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be recognized during a special program in the Great Hall.
The Library is also accepting contributions—such as original letters, photographs, journals, unpublished memoirs, artwork, and oral histories—for permanent inclusion in the Veterans History Project collection. While the VHP accepts materials from veterans of all conflicts, only items connected to members of the 6888th Postal Battalion will be featured during this special event.
Honoring a Legacy
“This is a sacred moment of remembrance, restoration, and rightful recognition for the heroic women of the 6888th,” said Pastor Kyev Tatum, who also leads The Texas 6888th Project, a statewide educational and commemorative initiative honoring these unsung heroes. “We are humbled to participate and help preserve their powerful legacy for future generations.”
