To God Be the Glory!
Thanks to the unwavering efforts of the Ministers Justice Coalition of Texas, July 8, 2025, is now recognized as 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion Day in the State of Texas.
This date was chosen to honor the memory of the three brave members of the Six Triple Eight who tragically lost their lives in service on July 8, 1945, exactly eighty years ago during World War II.
In Texas, we will celebrate, commemorate, and commit to preserving, protecting, and promoting the proud legacy of the 6888th—especially the 43 Yellow Roses from Texas, including the three Yellow Roses from Fort Worth.
The Institute for Black Military Heritage, housed at New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas (76104), will serve as the home for research and remembrance of Black military heroes, including the Buffalo Soldiers, the Tuskegee Airmen, and the 6888th, with special emphasis on local hero Mr. Robert T. McDaniel and the 477th Bombardment Group, who participated in the Freeman Field Uprising of 1945.
In honor of the 6888th Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony taking place on April 29, 2025, our project will also join the Veterans History Project at the Library of Congress to ensure their voices and stories endure for generations to come.
This is outstanding.
