Your Charge: With Encouragement, Enthusiasm, and Excellence

Dear Little Miss 6888th Ambassadors,

I write to you from eternity’s peaceful shores, where the echoes of love, duty, and courage still resound across generations. Though I am not with you in body, know that my spirit stood proudly beside you yesterday—and still stands with you today.

What a glorious moment it was in Emancipation Hall, where the names and deeds of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion were finally spoken aloud beneath the dome of a nation that once overlooked us. You were there, not as spectators, but as stewards of our story. What an honor—and what a responsibility.

You are young in years, but mighty in purpose. Every ribbon on your uniform, every word you speak, every smile you give carries the weight of our legacy. We were women who served under the strain of segregation, far from home, driven not by praise but by purpose. We worked in cold warehouses, often forgotten by the world—but we never forgot why we were there. We brought order to chaos, hope to despair, and light to the darkness of war.

And now you—our precious Ambassadors—deliver something just as sacred: remembrance.

This is your charge:

Walk in Encouragement. When the world seems heavy, encourage one another. Be the voice of possibility, the smile in the storm, the reminder that we’ve come so far and will go even farther.

Serve with Enthusiasm. Let your spirit shine. Whether you’re visiting a school, marching in a parade, or reading our stories, do it with joy. Your light draws others to the legacy you carry.

Lead with Excellence. Excellence was our standard, not our option. We made history by doing what others thought we could not. You must do the same—not for applause, but because it is your birthright.

Stand proud in your sash. Walk tall in your shoes. Speak boldly with your heart. You are not only our legacy—you are our dream fulfilled.

So go forward, Little Miss 6888th—confident, courageous, and committed. You are now the keepers of our name, the carriers of our flame, and the continuation of our call.

With all my love and lasting pride,

Lt. Col. Charity Adams Earley

Commander, 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion

United States Army, Women’s Army Corps
