A True Story: The Resurrection and the Reality of His Return. Luke 24:1–12

“Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee…” —Luke 24:5b–6

Introduction: The Power of a True Story

We live in a world overflowing with stories:

Stories that sound true, but are false.

Stories we wish were false, but turn out to be true.

Stories that give us hope, and stories we try to ignore because they hit too close to home.

But today, we reflect on a story that changed everything—

A story rooted in life, death, resurrection… and yes, His soon return.

This is not a myth.

Not a legend.

Not a metaphor.

This is a true story.

Point 1: The Prophets Told the Truth—But Were Dismissed

Scriptures: Jeremiah 25:4–5; Isaiah 53

Throughout history, God sent messengers to speak truth to His people.

They warned. They pleaded. They prophesied.

Jeremiah called for repentance.

Isaiah described the Suffering Servant in vivid detail.

But the people closed their ears and hardened their hearts.

Point: The truth doesn’t stop being true just because it’s ignored.

The Word of God stands—even when rejected.

Point 2: The Women Came with Spices, Not Expectation

Scripture: Luke 24:1–3

The women came early that morning with spices in their hands,

hearts full of grief, and no expectation of resurrection.

They came to anoint a body—not to witness a miracle.

They had heard His words, but sorrow had overshadowed their faith.

Point: Even when we come to God in doubt, He meets us in truth.

Faith may waver—but God’s promise never will.

Point 3: The Angels Declared What Jesus Already Said

Scripture: Luke 24:6–7

“Remember how He told you…”

The angels didn’t deliver a new revelation.

They simply reminded the women of what Jesus had already said.

He had predicted His death and resurrection.

They forgot—but He fulfilled.

Point: Jesus never speaks empty words.

If He said it, you can stand on it.

Point 4: The Resurrection Is Not Just a Story—It’s Salvation

Scripture: Romans 10:9

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

The resurrection isn’t just a powerful ending—it’s a life-changing beginning.

It is the foundation of our faith and the bridge to eternal life.

Point: The resurrection is not just history—it’s your hope, your salvation, and your decision.

It demands a response.

Point 5: The Resurrection Points to His Return

Scriptures: Revelation 19:7; John 14:3

“Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready.”

“I will come back and take you to be with Me that you also may be where I am.”

The resurrection was never the final chapter.

Jesus is preparing a place.

He is preparing a people.

And soon, He will return—not as the Lamb who was slain, but as the King who reigns.

Point: The tomb was just the turning point.

The story continues—and we’re living in the next chapter.

Conclusion: A True Story with Real Consequences

So what now?

Here’s the truth:

Jesus is reviewing. He knows your heart, your thoughts, your doubts, your devotion.

Jesus is recording. Every prayer, every confession, every step of faith is written in heaven.

Jesus is returning. And when He comes, He’s coming for a Church without spot or wrinkle—His bride.

This is not fiction. Not fantasy. Not folklore.

This is a True Story.

“Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” —John 20:29

The only question left is:

Do you believe it?

Because this story isn’t over—and your name can still be written in it.
