Honoring Heroes, Inspiring the Future: Fort Worth’s Little Miss 6888th Historians Embark on Historic Journey to Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony
Fort Worth, TX – A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is on the horizon for a group of 30 bright young students from New Mount Rose and Miss Endy’s Academy. Known as the Little Miss 6888th Historians, these students will travel to Washington, D.C., on April 29, 2025, to witness history as the legendary 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion—the only all-Black, all-female unit deployed to Europe during World War II—receives the Congressional Gold Medal, the nation’s highest civilian honor.
Leading this effort are Pastor Kyev Tatum and his wife, Tonya, who have been personally invited to the ceremony. Their mission is not just to attend but to bring the next generation along, ensuring that these young scholars—many from underserved communities—see firsthand the power of perseverance, patriotism, and Black excellence.
“This isn’t just a trip; it’s a transformational experience,” says Pastor Tatum. “These young people, our Little Miss 6888th Historians, will stand in the halls of Congress, where history is being made, and witness the long-overdue recognition of Black women who served our country with distinction. It’s an experience that will shape their futures.”
But making this journey possible requires community support. The cost of bus transportation and lodging for 50 participants—30 students and 20 chaperones—is a significant hurdle. The Tatums are calling on their community, local businesses, and supporters of Black history and education to help fund this inspiring journey.
For many of these students, this will be their first time leaving Texas, their first time visiting the nation’s capital, and their first time experiencing history outside the classroom. They will not only honor the past but also carry its lessons forward—returning to Fort Worth as ambassadors of history, justice, and progress.
“This is about investing in our future,” says Mrs. Tatum. “The women of the 6888th proved that courage and commitment can overcome any obstacle. Our Little Miss 6888th Historians deserve the chance to see that truth in action.”
The total price for the trip that includes transportation and lodging is $15,000.

Every dollar brings these young minds closer to an experience that will inspire them for a lifetime.
Let’s come together to ensure the Little Miss 6888th Historians take their rightful place in history—learning from the past so they can lead the future.
