FROM THE BEAN TO THE BANK: The Inner City Coffee Exchange at New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church.

“Same Grams, Different Grind.” — Pastor Kyev Tatum, Founding Director

Investing in a Better Future Through Specialty Coffee

In the wake of the 2020 pandemic, Pastor Kyev Tatum saw a critical need in Fort Worth’s inner city: the local economy was failing those who needed opportunities the most. Inspired by the work of the Texas A&M University Center for Coffee Research and Education, he envisioned a transformative initiative—one that would teach young people the art, science, and business of specialty coffee, equipping them with marketable skills and a pathway to economic independence.

Thus, the Inner City Coffee Exchange was born. Rooted in the mission of New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church, this initiative provides hands-on training in the specialty coffee industry—guiding participants from the green of the bean, to the blending of the brew, to the budgeting of the bank. It’s a holistic approach to economic empowerment, designed to create jobs, entrepreneurs, and a sustainable economic ecosystem in our underserved communities.

Why Financial Support is Crucial

While the passion, dedication, and impact of this movement are undeniable, financial support remains the missing ingredient to fully realize its potential. Your investment in the Inner City Coffee Exchange can make a tangible difference in the lives of young people seeking a new path—one that leads to financial stability, career opportunities, and economic self-sufficiency.

Here’s what your contribution supports:

• Job Training & Workforce Development – Providing hands-on education in coffee roasting, brewing, business management, and customer service to prepare participants for careers in the specialty coffee industry.

• Entrepreneurial Opportunities – Equipping young people with the knowledge and resources to start their own coffee businesses, from mobile coffee carts to brick-and-mortar cafés.

• Community Impact – Strengthening the local economy by creating a network of Black-owned coffee enterprises that generate jobs and circulate wealth within the community.

• Youth Outreach & Alternative Pathways – Steering young people away from illegal economies by showing them how the same skills used to sell drugs can be applied to selling coffee—legally, ethically, and with long-term success.

• Signature Events & Public Engagement – Expanding initiatives like the Fort Worth Coffee Festival, Prayer Room Coffeehouse, and the Youth Coffee Expo, which serve as platforms for education, networking, and economic stimulation.

The Call to Action: How You Can Help

Your financial support—whether through a one-time donation, monthly sponsorship, or corporate partnership—directly fuels this movement. Here’s how you can get involved:

1. Become a Monthly Supporter – Pledge $25, $50, or $100 per month to help sustain training programs and provide resources for participants.

2. Sponsor a Youth Scholar – A $500 sponsorship provides one student with a full training course, professional mentorship, and start-up support.

3. Fund a Coffee Microbusiness – A $5,000 investment helps launch an independent coffee cart, giving a young entrepreneur a chance to build their own future.

4. Corporate & Business Sponsorships – Partner with us to develop job pipelines, internships, and employment opportunities for program graduates.

5. In-Kind Donations – Contribute coffee equipment, materials, and resources to support hands-on training.

Your Impact: More Than Just Coffee

Supporting the Inner City Coffee Exchange is not just about coffee—it’s about changing lives, revitalizing communities, and breaking cycles of poverty. Every dollar invested goes directly into empowering young people, fostering economic independence, and building a sustainable future for our neighborhoods.
