Faith Without Farming is Fruitless.

Faith Without Farming is Fruitless!

“The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” — Genesis 2:15

Where others see a vacant lot, Pastor Kyev Tatum sees a harvest waiting to happen. That vision gave birth to Farm Fort Worth—a bold stand against the idea that fresh food, economic opportunity, and healthy living should be luxuries in East 76104, the Fort Worth community with the lowest life expectancy in Texas. Instead of waiting for change, Pastor Tatum got to work—because, as he puts it, “Faith without farming is fruitless!”

The Bible teaches that faith demands action. James 2:17 reminds us, “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” Farm Fort Worth embodies that truth, turning faith into food, jobs, and empowerment.

But Farm Fort Worth is more than just an urban farm—it’s a mission, a movement, and a means of survival. Through gardening, culinary arts, a mobile food pantry, and a farmer’s market, the farm is proving that self-sufficiency is the best resistance, and that a homegrown tomato can be just as powerful as a protest sign.

Beyond food, the farm also heals. The Bible speaks of land as a place of restoration and renewal. Isaiah 58:11 promises, “You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” In a community burdened by historical trauma, economic hardship, and systemic neglect, gardening therapy offers peace, purpose, and healing. Working the land isn’t just about survival—it’s about revival.

By reclaiming the land, restoring health, and rebuilding the local economy, Farm Fort Worth is planting more than crops—it’s planting hope. As Galatians 6:9 reminds us, “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

Pastor Kyev Tatum: Planting Seeds, Growing Change, and Serving with Soul

“We are planting the seeds of change today so that our children and grandchildren can reap the benefits of a healthier, stronger, and more self-sufficient community tomorrow.” — Pastor Kyev Tatum

Pastor Kyev Tatum is not your average preacher—he’s a visionary, a truth-teller, a history curator, and a man who believes that faith without works is just a good speech. For more than three decades, he has been stirring the pot of justice, tilling the soil of opportunity, and making sure the least, last, lost, and left out get their rightful place at the table—and if there’s no table, he’ll build one himself.

As the Pastor of New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church and President of the Ministers Justice Coalition of Texas, Pastor Tatum has been at the forefront of battles against food deserts, economic oppression, and social injustice. Whether he’s preaching, protesting, or planting, he brings the same energy: bold, unapologetic, and full of purpose.

From Pulpit to Pasture: The Birth of Farm Fort Worth

Some people see a vacant lot—Pastor Tatum sees a harvest waiting to happen. That’s how Farm Fort Worth was born: from a refusal to accept that fresh food and economic opportunity should be luxuries in East 76104. Instead of waiting on someone else to fix the problem, he rolled up his sleeves, dug into the soil, and got to work—because as he says, “Faith without farming is just wishing on a weed.”

Farm Fort Worth is more than an urban farm—it’s a mission, a movement, and a means of survival for a community that has been systematically left behind. Through gardening, culinary arts, a community food pantry, and a farmer’s market, Pastor Tatum is proving that self-sufficiency is the best resistance, and a homegrown tomato is just as powerful as a protest sign.

The Man, The Mission, The Mustard Seeds of Change

Pastor Tatum isn’t afraid to speak truth to power, but he also knows that real change happens when people get their hands in the dirt, their minds in the game, and their hearts in the fight. Whether he’s organizing, educating, or cultivating, he operates with the belief that history is made by those who refuse to sit still and wait their turn.

With a spirit as strong as the coffee he brews and a laugh as hearty as the meals he helps provide, Pastor Kyev Tatum is a man on a mission—a mission to turn vacant lots into vibrant farms, turn hunger into hope, and turn neighbors into family.

And if you ask him why he does it, he’ll probably grin and say, “Because somebody has to, and I just happen to be crazy enough to believe it can be done.”
