Honoring the Life, Love, and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “We need treatment for the trauma caused by the tragedy of gun violence homicides and suicides in the community.” Pastor Tatum

FORT WORTH, TEXAS – On April 11, 2025, we will pause to reflect on a defining moment in our nation’s history—the day we lost Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 57 years ago in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. King gave his life in the fight for justice, peace, and the beloved community. Yet today, right here in Fort Worth, we are still burying our babies—losing them to the senseless tragedies of gun violence and suicides. The devastating truth? More lives are lost to gun suicides than homicides.

We must act. We must stand. We must march.

We will march in solidarity.

We will sing in remembrance.

We will speak in truth.

We will release the grief that weighs heavy on our hearts.

We must encourage our people to bury their bullets, not our babies! The time is now. Enough is enough.

As we honor Dr. King’s legacy, we call on 100 clergy from all denominations and faiths to march with us, adorned in their robes and stoles, standing as a sacred witness to our collective commitment to end this cycle of violence. No more silence. No more complacency.

The tree of trauma caused by gun violence has deep roots, but together, we can break the cycle. On this sacred day in America’s history, the entire nation is invited to stand with us.

Our times demand it.

History requires it.

Our babies deserve it.

And God is still watching.

This event is hosted by New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church and sponsored by the Ministers Justice Coalition of Texas and Guns to Gardens Tarrant County.
