SIGNED, SEALED, & DELIVERED. Miss Torie Monroe Hunter to Be Honored at 12th Annual Lenora Rolla Juried Art Show on February 20, 2025 in Downtown Fort Worth.

FORT WORTH, TX - New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church proudly celebrates 11-year-old artist Torie Monroe Hunter, who will be recognized at the Opening Reception of the 12th Annual Lenora Rolla Juried Art Show. This prestigious event, honoring artistic excellence and cultural heritage, will take place on Thursday, February 20, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at 400 Houston St, Fort Worth, TX. The Artist Opening & Awards Ceremony is free and open to the public, and friends and family are encouraged to attend.

Torie’s featured artwork is a striking portrait of Major Charity Adams, the pioneering commander of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion during World War II. Known as the “Six Triple Eight,” this all-Black, all-female unit in the Women’s Army Corps was tasked in 1945 with sorting and delivering an overwhelming backlog of approximately 17 million pieces of mail in war-torn Europe. Under the motto “No Mail, Low Morale,” these trailblazing women braved harsh conditions in cold, dimly lit warehouses to ensure that American troops received their much-needed correspondence from home. Their perseverance and efficiency in clearing the backlog in record time earned them a place in history for “saving the morale of America” during WWII.

The Lenora Rolla Exhibit, hosted by the Tarrant County Black Historical & Genealogical Society, celebrates Black History Month by highlighting the contributions of African Americans through visual arts. Art Director Karen Shield expressed her excitement, stating, “We are honored to showcase the talents of young artists like Torie, who use their gifts to preserve and illuminate the legacies of extraordinary figures like Major Charity Adams.”

Attendees will have the unique opportunity to view Torie’s powerful portrait and gain insight into the profound legacy of the 6888th Battalion. The event promises to be a memorable evening filled with art, history, and inspiration as the next generation of artists honors the trailblazers who paved the way.
