The Power of Prayer: Cultivating A Circle of Compassion in Times of Tragedy. Luke 18:1
Since 2018, the Ministers Justice Coalition of Texas and the New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church have stood as a beacon of hope and healing in the face of tragedy. Guided by the conviction that “men ought always to pray, and not to faint” (Luke 18:1), these faith leaders have faithfully answered the call to intercede for their community, city, and nation in times of crisis.
In moments of profound pain and uncertainty, the church has been more than a house of worship; it has been a sanctuary of compassion. From praying for the swift recovery of a wounded Fort Worth officer in 2018 to mourning victims of violence and systemic injustices, New Mount Rose has consistently drawn people together in faith and unity. Whether addressing the heartbreak of a deadly officer-involved shooting, comforting grieving Black mothers, or lifting prayers for victims of national tragedies, the church has remained a steadfast pillar of hope.
God has uniquely positioned the Ministers Justice Coalition of Texas to be more than a response team in times of need. They have become a circle of compassion, demonstrating the transformative power of prayer. After the devastation of the 2021 winter storm, their prayers were paired with action, helping North Texans access food and other essential resources. In 2022, following the Uvalde school shooting, their prayers extended beyond Fort Worth, bringing solace to grieving families across the state.
In 2023, their prayers reached a national audience as they lifted Damar Hamlin during his medical crisis, reminding the world of the unifying power of faith. Most recently, the community came together in 2025 to honor the victims of the New Year’s Day terror attack in New Orleans, showing once again that in moments of darkness, prayer can light the way.
Through these years, the coalition and church have shown that prayer is more than words; it is an act of faith that transcends tragedy and builds bridges between the brokenhearted. Their unwavering commitment to being present in the pain, to mourning with those who mourn, and to standing for justice reflects the heart of God and the enduring strength of a praying community.
As we reflect on these moments, we are reminded that prayer changes things—it brings healing to the wounded, comfort to the grieving, and hope to the hopeless. The Ministers Justice Coalition of Texas and the New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church embody this truth, standing as a powerful example of what it means to be the hands and feet of Christ in a world that desperately needs His peace.
