Statement by Pastor Kyev Tatum on Texas Senate Bill 2: A Billion-Dollar Blessing for Education.
Today, we stand at a crossroads in the fight for equity and excellence in education. As the Texas Senate deliberates on Senate Bill 2 and the creation of Education Savings Accounts, it is clear that this legislation represents a billion-dollar blessing for families across our state.
We do not need more money poured into a broken system. Instead, we need bold, innovative solutions that empower parents to make the best decisions for their children’s education. Senate Bill 2 offers families, especially those in underserved communities, the opportunity to access the resources they need to choose schools and programs that align with their children’s unique needs and aspirations.
School choice is not a partisan issue, it is a justice issue. Every child deserves the right to learn, grow, and succeed in an environment that fosters their potential. Education Savings Accounts provide that opportunity by placing control in the hands of parents, not bureaucracies.
Texas has a long history of leading the nation in innovation, and this is our moment to lead in education reform. Senate Bill 2 is more than a policy; it is a promise to the children of Texas that their future will not be dictated by their ZIP code but determined by their potential.
Let us seize this opportunity to transform lives and build a brighter future for all Texans.
