Plow Forward! (Luke 9:62)

New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church

Pastor Kyev Tatum

Introduction:

My brothers and sisters, we gather today under a divine mandate, a mission that cannot be shaken by the winds of the world. In a time when many are moving in different directions, some backward, some sideways, and some even downward, we at New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church stand firm in our commitment to move in one direction: forward!

Our motto, Plow Forward!, is not just a phrase, it is a declaration of faith, a battle cry for perseverance, and a commitment to the work of the Kingdom. Jesus spoke these words in Luke 9:62:

No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.

This scripture is more than instruction, it is a call to action.

I. Keep Your Hands on the Plow

When a farmer grips the plow, he cannot afford to look back. Looking back distorts the path, creates uneven furrows, and jeopardizes the harvest. Likewise, as a church, we must remain focused on the work God has called us to do.

We cannot be distracted by the past. Yesterday’s pain, yesterday’s failures, and even yesterday’s victories cannot dictate what God is doing right now!

We cannot be discouraged by challenges. The enemy will try to pull us in different directions, through division, doubt, and fear, but we must keep our hands steady on the plow.

We must keep our eyes on the mission. Just as a farmer plows in expectation of a harvest, we must continue to labor in faith, knowing that our work in the Lord is not in vain.

II. Don’t Let Anything or Anyone Turn You Around

The song says: Ain't Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Around.

Church, there will always be forces trying to turn us around:

The weight of the world’s distractions. Social media, politics, and personal struggles will try to shift our focus.

The voices of doubt. Some will say the work is too hard, the fight for justice is too big, or the community is too broken. But we must plow forward!

The spirit of complacency. Some may ask, “Why keep fighting? Why keep serving? Why keep praying?

The answer is simple: because God has called us to plow forward!

We stand on the promise of Galatians 6:9:

Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Don’t faint, New Mount Rose! Keep pushing forward!

III. Plowing Forward Means Moving with Purpose

To plow forward is to move with purpose:

1. Remaining Mission-Focused,  We are not consumed by the distractions of the world but stay centered on Kingdom work.

2. Refusing to Look Back in Defeat. The past may inform us, but it does not define or confine us.

3. Overcoming Obstacles with Faith. No hardship, injustice, or opposition will break our spirit.

4. Building a Future of Hope“ We prepare the soil for those who will come after us, ensuring a strong foundation for future generations.

Conclusion: The Harvest is Coming!

My brothers and sisters, we are not just moving, we are moving with purpose. Plow forward in worship. Plow forward in service. Plow forward in justice. Plow forward in love.

With our hands steady on the plow, our faith rooted in God, and our vision fixed on the Kingdom, we boldly declare:

We Ain’t Gonna Let Nobody Turn Us Around!

New Mount Rose, Plow Forward! The harvest is coming!

Altar Call:

If you’re ready to put your hands on the plow and not look back, come forward. If you need strength to keep moving forward, come forward. God is calling us to greater things, and we must answer with faith, determination, and obedience.

Amen!
